CrimeView Community indicates that I should leave Peoria

Silly me, I thought CrimeView was going to be used to provide information to law enforcement so that they could make educated decisions on how to protect citizens.

The Peoria Police Department and Peoria County Sheriff’s Department launched a crime-mapping tool called CrimeView Community Wednesday at the Peoria police station. The program provides up to 90 days’ worth of offenses that occur in a user-designated area.

And we were trying to figure out what family outing we should do on a Saturday night. I didn't even think to check CrimeView...duh!

"It's just providing information to the public so they can make educated decisions on what they want to do with their family." Move? Yikes. Shouldn't the cops be the ones to decide what to do with their citizens, like keep them safe? Wait, I'm being too logical again...

Its tools like this that say to me, we don't have nearly enough officers.

It is very cool though. I have often wondered, why is it that the police chief never dresses like a police chief? I wonder if the thugs even know who he is.

Does something like CrimeView let realtors off the hook? Is this the green light to red line? Would a realtor be remiss not to direct a client to CrimeView and consult with them on their findings?

I was thinking the same thing, Emerge.

Well.. what crimeview doesn't tell you, is the density of the population present, nor the prevalence of rental properties.

I would also say that your wealthier folks are less likely to call in reports of minor crimes. We have neighbors around here who don't bother reporting because their deductables are X dollars. Reporting it might cause their insurance rates to go up, so why bother. It's easier to just replace the stolen item or damaged item.

With drugs... studies show that that drug use is an equal opportunity offense, meaning rich folks are just as likely use and abuse as poor folks. So... why are there few incidents up north? Probably because wealthier people are more likely to seek treatment, thus avoiding the long arm of the law. Not to mention I think the police are more likely to let 'mom n dad' deal with it if they think mom n dad are capable.

So.. is crimeview misleading to some degree... yes I think so.

Mahnko, again you are correct - CrimeView is very misleading. Peorians might look at it and think they are smarter and safer because they are in North Peoria, well here is a NEWSFLASH for ya:

Behind every low level black guy selling drugs in the East Bluff, there is a wealthy white guy in a nice neighborhood in North Peoria putting up the cash. Believe that.
