He's wrong on his main point. The government is not the best source of ensuring food safety. They could tax every person at 100% and there wouldn't be enough resources to inspect 100% of the foods, and with a huge budget drugs get through all the time.

The best way to ensure safe food is to buy it from people you trust.

False security is worse than no security at all. If you want clean spinach, guaranteed, grow it in your yard or buy it from someone you know. But the FDA will never be able to inspect 100% of the food, and trusting them isn't going to work.
