Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred roughly at about 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the Hucks on North War Memorial Drive. The robber took an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot, running across War Memorial Drive to the Upland Terrace area where the officer lost sight of him. A K9 team was called as the suspect ran into the woods. It is unknown if the suspect was caught. The suspect wearing a black hoody and mask implied that he had a gun.

You know, this reminds me of a story - when I was purchasing a house in 2002 near the Bradley/Moss/Western area, my realtor advised me to call the police department if I was concerned about crime in that neighborhood. I was new to Peoria and wasn't sure about my decision. So I called the police department to find out crime statistics for my potential new neighborhood.
What I was told didn't really surprise me - some robberies, domestic stuff, stolen cars, a few gun shots, some drug stuff, etc. Then I asked how the statistics for this neighborhood compared to other neighborhoods, including the one I was moving from which was near Big Hollow and War Memorial. The cop said, "Lady . . . EVERY neighborhood in Peoria has crime. The statistics are all about the same. It's what the media reports that makes the difference."
I bought my house in a wonderful West Bluff Neighborhood and have lived there ever since.

You would have been right in the area of the robbery. Apparently the suspect was not caught and ran through the neighborhood bounded by Devonshire and Upland Terrace.
There was a blurb about it on WMBD at 12:00.
Funny they reported on all of the details about the crazy woman shoot out on the South end, but little to nothing about the robbery on the North end.
I heard about it on WMBD radio at 6 a.m.--but I am not sure there was any mention of the suspect running into the woods.
That station is robbed so frequently, I am not surprised they don't have a sign that announces their next holdup.

You know, as I've tracked crime reporting in the PJ-Star, I've wondered about this myself. Going forward, the Peoria CrimeView website might be a better source of raw information. Plus, did you see that they now have email alerts? Choose a location and radius, and it'll send you an email for any incident within that area.
