I realize I am one to wear rosy colored glasses but my neighborhood is listed in severe. hmmm? Did you find this on the Peoria Police Dept. website? If so, Emerge, do you know how they determined this information? Geez I can't remember the last time I heard about a crime happening in my neighborhood and I live in a busy part of Peoria. I feel very safe in my neighborhood. In fact, we joke about living in Mayberry. :)
Jenny: This is by no means scientific. This is just my perceptions from news reports. What is your neighborhood (e-mail me)? I will move it where you think is appropriate.
I pull my hair out and pace the floor over shit like this. I still can't believe that in 2009 we can't figure out how to keep people safe. When will we say enough is enough and actually work with the disenfranchised in our society? Really? If I feel this way given my circumstances, I simply cannot imagine how my fellow citizens, who are living much worse, must feel.
As I was sitting at my computer last night I heard gunshots. Gunshots!!! This morning I found out there was another shooting on McClure. That's 3 shootings between a multi-million dollar zoo and a multi-million dollar new school within a few days. Mayor Ardis...WAKE UP!
The Peoria Zoo event was heavily guarded last night by Peoria and Park Police. Interesting to see them shuttling people the short distance from cars to the Zoo on golf carts. How's that for security.
Meanwhile, across the street flowers are tacked to the door of the gas station where a citizen was gunned down; a little further down the block from the big Zoo event on McClure, crime rages on with folks getting shot, with multiple gun shots being fired.
Is this the future of policing in Peoria, only the special few are assured of protection, while outside the bubble the rest of us fend for ourselves?
We are being taxed for what - horrible schools, property values diminishing and police services being cut?
Is this the level of service you all agreed to when Ardis got his second term? Oh, that's right, the only promise Ardis made was to keep doing the next four years what he did the first four years.
Is this the part where somebody comes on and says "it's better here"? I guess so, if you are comparing it to Detroit or East St. Louis.
Bullseye, Emerge! The above words should be etched in granite. Thank you.
Emerge,
I know you said this was not a scientific study but I would like to know how you came up with your conclusions. I generally keep a pretty good pulse on my association and although we are not totally crime free, I don't believe we are severe.
General,
Here is my disclaimer:
"This information is not based on any specific studies. It is Emerge Peoria's tongue in cheek perception of crime as illustrated by news reports."
By the way, if you are tucked away inside a neighborhood, with no crime on your street, but all along the borders of your neighborhood crime is raging, your neighborhood is "hot".
My neighborhood is a living testament to that just this week.
IMHO there is little difference between High, Severe or Elevated. They all mean "hot", which is not good.
