Our City leaders are working at a record pace throwing red meat to the savages. In response citizens of Peoria are busting their bigoted asses to show how racist they are. Even those who have tried to hide it just can’t resist all of the opportunities to put others down. I hope the powers that be are satisfied with the revelry they see amongst the bigots who reside in Peoria. As long as these attitudes are coddled (and they are) it will never be “Better Here”.

my result was a slight "preference" for light skinned people. i don't know if that makes me racist or not. i don't feel i have a preference one way or the other, yet i suppose science doesn't lie. i've been studying decision-making and its interesting the degree bias plays in subconscious pre-conditioning to decision outcomes...
I'll probably get lambasted for asking this, but what are you talking about? I honestly don't know to what you're referring.
Lambasted? Who has the time or the energy? Not I.
I am speaking of the racist boil that continues to fester here in Peoria. For more specific examples, read the comments here:

Well don't go reading Peoria Pundit. I know I had a few choice words for Mr. I Beg For Blog Dollars and Digital Cameras. I'd sure like to hear his tune had he ever been married and been left holding the bag with 2-3 kids and no child support on the meager wages he makes. Don't even get me started...Grrrrrrrrrr!! Oh, but then he is the owner and operator of the Blog Peoria Project. Whoopteefreakindoo.
And not to 'lambaste' anyone, but it was VERY obvious what Emerge was referring to here. Well, anyone who doesn't live behind a white picket fence.
You know, Emerge, I've noticed this sort of "couched" racism since I moved here in '05. I even pointed it out to a few folks and was swiftly characterized as a ne'er do well.
Sorry. My kids never heard the "n" word uttered till they moved here. I continue to be disgusted by not only the racism that exists in this area but also the complete blind eye that the "haves" cast upon it.
Further, anyone who lives North of I-80 (the bible belt of Illinois) considers those of us who live South total and complete rednecks.
Emerge -- Thanks for the explanation and example.
Themis -- Thanks for the swipe. I knew someone would do it!
Riblix -- Who are these "haves" and how have they "cast" a "completely blind eye" on "the racism that exists in this area"? What do you think they should do?
C.J. - LOL, and you had bets it would be me? :)
Jokes about sterilization; constant use of the phrase "those people"; folks who think it is acceptable to do racial profiling as long as you are of the same race as the people being profiled; jokes about Cadillacs and $100 sneakers; and the prevailing misconception that everything that ails Peoria is because of 25% of the population is just tiresome.
Wake up people, in case you have not noticed this is the f***ing 21st Century. NEWSFLASH: Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States.
This is the home of the corporate headquarters of Caterpillar Tractor; a company that MUST attract employees of all nationalities from over the world and this is the culturally indifferent City Caterpillar is bringing them to. Just UGH - embarrassing.
Emerge - I agree it is embarrassing. Regarding CAT, I have always felt there has been a disconnect somewhere -- a kind of blind eye as to what was happening in Peoria. CAT has been a generous to the City over the years, but has not used its influence to channel the right type of change that would be good not only for the community but for CAT as well.
"Riblix -- Who are these "haves" and how have they "cast" a "completely blind eye" on "the racism that exists in this area"? What do you think they should do?"
I've only lived here for 3 years. The divisiveness of this community is striking. From the "jay-walking" ticket "debacle" to the profiling at the most recent IHSA basketball tournament. Give me a break. I think that there are people who have lived here 'forever' and, while they might not approve of the institutional racism that exists, their failure to acknowledge it gives tacit approval.
What I know is that we moved here in '05. Prior to that, they NEVER came home and reported that their classmates had used the "N" word. Nor had they come home and shared a racist "joke".
Until moving south of I-80, it was not necessary to teach my children that they should tell a peer that a racist joke just wasn't funny.
Emerge, until C.J. asked the question, I wasn't sure to which specific data you were referring. Now that you have clarified that you meant the comments on the PJS website, I agree. I don't visit the site that often, but whenever I do I think I've tried to make a comment showing my disapproval of the racist comments. That is one of the problems with blogs--people who do not use their own names are free to spew out all sorts of venom. Fortunately, those of us who disagree, also, can exercise our freedom of speech to express our views. No, racism isn't dead--and it does interfere with any solutions to societal problems.
