Queen of Blues, KoKo Taylor dies at 80
KoKo Taylor, the Queen of Blues died yesterday after complications from surgery she had on May 19, 2009, for gastrointestinal bleeding. Her final performance was at the Blues Music Awards, on May 7, 2009.
Taylor influenced musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Shemekia Copeland, Janis Joplin, Shannon Curfman, and Susan Tedeschi. In the years prior to her death, she performed over 70 concerts a year and resided just south of Chicago in Country Club Hills, Illinois.
Many may remember KoKo from Blues Brothers 2000 which was 1998 musical/comedy film and sequel to the 1980 film The Blues Brothers. The film featured Dan Aykroyd and John Goodman, with cameos by many musicians.

I read about this on Open Salon... what a talented woman! Glad you brought it to Peoria...
I loved Koko Taylor. She and Bobbye King will both be missed in the female blues world. Thank goodness their legends will live on in their music and those of us that got to see them perform their majik. :)
My wife and I went to college near Chicago and Koko Taylor was, to us, synonymous with Blues Fest. She was a dynamic performer - even recently as Emerge pointed out. She will be missed greatly.
