I have no idea how many parents actually check the District 150 web site, but if I didn't stop by there from time to time I would have no idea what is going on. The District really needs to work on getting the word out on their initiatives and the changes that are taking place, otherwise ALL of the parents who don't have internet (and some who do) will be totally clueless. A little PR could go a long way toward getting what is sure to be a tough year off to a good start.
This initiative is more than likely being advertised on WCIC-FM, as they have a web page dedicated to it, but are the people who listen to WCIC-FM the only volunteers the District want?
An opportunity to help District 150:
Peoria Public Schools has teamed up with 91.5 FM, WCIC to recruit volunteers that will help register students for the upcoming school year. This is the first year PPS is requiring all families to register children at their school rather than receiving packets in the mail. We want to build stronger partnerships with families. The plan is to begin the school year sharing key information with families and gathering the information we need to effectively serve all children. Volunteers are needed to help families fill out information sheets, hand out forms and keep the registration process moving and efficient. The volunteer drive aims to find a minimum of 150 volunteers to serve one shift at one of the following registration events:
Primary Schools
August 20 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2-4:30pm and 4:30-7pm.
Middle Schools
August 18 & 19 . . . . . . . . . . . 7:30-10:30am, 10:30am-1:30pm, and 1:30-3:30pm
August 20 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12-3:30pm and 3:30-7pm.
To sign up, prospective volunteers are encouraged to visit www.wcicfm.org.
If families are unable to attend the registration dates above, they are required to schedule an appointment by calling their child's school. CityLink will be providing free transportation to and from registration for family members of District 150 students. Check www.psd150.org for more updates!
