I think it's pretty crazy how SC assumes that the neighbors would assume he was being racist if the situation was reversed. I don't think that's a safe assumption to make.
I guess I don't get it - I hardly ever check out Peoria.com, so am not that familiar. Is Diane (Vespa?) one of the moderators? I saw a few moderators names listed on the left side, but none was Diane. Maybe some comments have been deleted? If, you're just annoyed that the moderator DIDN'T step in, I can't say I agree with that. I obviously don't agree with SC's thought process, but I don't think it was particularly harmful - just stupid. Now, maybe you're talking about JNJ, who initially pointed out the stupidity of the argument, only to somehow show he/she was initially confused and thus agrees with the original post?!?! :) Yea, it looks like JNJ is one of the moderators, so if that's "diane", I finally get your point. :)Either way, it's not necessarily a "moderating" problem (maybe it's me, but I more often think of moderating as policing - though I understand it could/should be more like leading a discussion down a more meaningful path) just another example of two, how should I say, "confused" people about racism.
Maybe SC can hook up with Kevster and they can all have watermelon and fried chicken for Thanksgiving, after all I think I read on PDC that Kevster thinks that's what the Obama's might be having for Thanksgiving. PDC...the Heart and Soul of Peoria *shudder*...
I haven't been able to link to the post of which you are all speaking, but the SC makes me nervous--I assume someone else has my initials.
OK--I finally got to the "Stray Cat" comment. But I am confused as to where "Diane" or which "Diane" fits into this. Emerge, please enlighten me. Who is the "owner" of the Peoria.com blog? To what "moderator" are you referring?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't JnJ one of the moderators on Peoria.com Diane Vespa? I believe the SC initials are short for "Stray Cat".And yeah, I guess I was too fast with the kudos...
Yes, yes and duh.
But hey...I was wondering, what if the 'established' neighbor had been white and asked Mr. StrayCat that same question? Would any of this discussion had ensued?
Emerge, I don't know the answer to that question, but Diane has her own blog--PeoriaRocks--so I don't know anything about any connection to Peoria.com
Yes, Diane is JnJ and is a moderator at Peoria.com, the premiere Peoria website for religious wackos, homophobes and racists.
Peoria.com is a website with over 5,300 registered users. It's forums generate on the average 400 - 500 posts per day. As such, it represents a wide spectrum of opinions and ideas on all topics including the tough social issues we as a community face today. It's all volunteer moderating staff does its best to tamp down highly offensive and intolerant comments such as Jenniffers. Fortunately for Jenniffer, participation at Peoria.com is purely voluntary and she can avoid the detested site by simply not going there.
