Although I don't recall ever seeing an organizational chart for any of District 150's previous Superintendents, developing the organizational chart was something Norm Durflinger was asked to come in and do when he was the Interim Superintendent. Reportedly, the move was promted by the retirement of administrators who held at least six positions on the organizational chart.Over the past two years, the district's administrative structure has been in flux, moving from two associate superintendents to one and from two academic officers to one. Also, a number of faces rotated in other positions, including the district's student affairs director.
Durflinger said some jobs could be combined, and others possibly eliminated.
I ASSume that the new organizational chart will be revealed in the 2010-2011 budget, which needs to be approved by September 30th.
Chicago Public Schools has revealed it's 2010-2011 budget amid concerns of "outsiders running most key departments". Sound familiar...

New Organization Chart for CPS Shows that Educators Are No Longer Welcome in Huberman's Executive Ranks
August 16, 2010
One of the many major political changes in Chicago revealed in Ron Huberman's 2010 - 2011 proposed budget for Chicago's public schools is that trained professional educators are definitely not welcome in the executive ranks of Chicago's public schools. The unprecedented and radical change in governance amounts to a virtual coup d'etat against professionalism in public education in the city that has been pioneering much of what has become the national model for corporate "school reform."
A few details are necessary for the reader to fully understand what is taking place in Chicago. On Page 314 (print edition) of the Proposed Budget, 2010 - 2011, Huberman, for the first time, provides the public with his organization chart. The chart shows that while claiming a budget "deficit" for the past seven months, the Chief Executive Officer of Chicago's public school system has been adding to the ranks of unqualified outsiders running most key departments — and almost all of the ever-expanding "Area Offices."
In a dramatic shift that even goes beyond what his predecessor, Arne Duncan, tried, Huberman has relegated those with classroom and school-based principal experience in Chicago to the sidelines.

I was told that District 150's organizational chart will, also, show the salaries including benefits of all administrators, department heads, etc. That would certainly be a great step in the direction of total transparency.
It sure would, Sharon. I am looking forward to seeing it.
I hope to see it in our packet Friday. I saw a "draft' and comparing current w/previous stucture isn't all apples to apples, but i think it is a step towards better accountability and transparency.
That's great that you will get a chance to see it in advance of seeing the the 2010-2011 budget. That's a good look for Administration.
Excellent piece. Emerge, it seems lately you have been working overtime.
I like the idea of "outsiders" be they educators or not. I am ASSuming that Dr. Lathan and those she has selected have been exposed to a broader range of educational environments, technical expertise, and leadership style than constantly feeding off the status quo of Peoria and the surrounding area to fill vacancies.
With the exception of positions which drive decisions in the area of curriculum offerings, I think it makes good sense for the CPS to hire individuals with broader skills and more depth in management. HOWEVER, I thought the Illinois School Code required individuals in school district management to have an administrator or superintendent certificate?? How did CPS get around this requirement?
Thanks Paul.
Chicago is the only place in Illinois where that is the rule...
"the State of Illinois, outside of Chicago, requires that teachers be certified to teach after completing a certain amount of professional training. Illinois, outside of Chicago, also requires that public school administrators hold administrative certificates.
Haven't had chance to look @ packet info yet, but was told Manual awarded 1003g Grant - $6 mil over 3 years. Congratulations to all involved!
Jim, I didn't realize that Manual had won a grant two years ago--a grant that required that most of the old faculty be removed. None of us knew that those were the strings attached to the grant. I really don't understand how that bit of secrecy helped anybody. Of course, the same thing could have happened to PHS if they had gone after the grant. Are there any strings attached to this $6 million?
Still hearing rumblings about Bobby Darling and other top union folks working at the Administration building.
I wonder if we will be able to see these titles on the new Administration organizational chart that came out this past Friday.
I believe Jim Stowell said the chart would have titles, job descriptions and salaries.
The Fresh Market..opened its new store at Westlake Shopping Center at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The 25,000-square-foot store will be the fifth in Illinois for the NORTH CAROLINA based Fresh Market, which now has 89 stores in 17 states. Say what? Is Peoria the new North Carolins. TOTALLY JOKING!
