Guess who

Appointments to the City's Police-Community Relations Committee have been deferred for one month. According to Councilman Clyde Gulley, the deferral was needed to look at the makeup of the committee again and to potentially include some people who were left out.

Interesting, like who?

I will admit, I was surprised that Pastor Burnett's name was not on the list. Just from reading this blog, you can get an idea of how involved he has been in trying to work with the City and PPD to stop crime.

Just saying.

Emerge, I agree.

This is quite interesting to say the least, but I have been overwhelmed with family business for about the last month or so.

Looking at the list, with the exception of Mr. Sierra, I wonder where are the representatives that live in the areas and neighborhoods affected most by crime and violence?

Another question, could the PHA have recruited some of their residents for this commission? Since some of their sites such as teh Taft and Harrison has been targeted as problematic neighborhoods, wouldn't it make sense to have made a special effort to get a representative involved from those communities?

I simply say that due to the ongoing importance and significance of this sort of thing for all citizens, especially those within high crime areas, greater balance should be the goal.

I digress!

I recall a woman and young man who went to the City Council meeting about a month ago. They lived in the one of the hot spot areas. The woman spoke passionately about wanting to help - they should have tapped her for the Commission then.

Instead, not one person on the Council had anything to say to her or the young man who was with her (at least not on camera).

Emerge,
I think a better question would be "who applied?" I believe a call went out for people to submit resumes or something like that.
When you look at who applied and where they lived and who was chosen and where they live, you get a better picture of their decision making process.

I hope you haven't forgotten about our Million Father March and rally this Sunday. We will leave from three different locations (Woodruff, Central and City of Refuge's parking lots) and converge at Liberty Park on the Riverfront. March starts at 5 pm. and the rally begins at 6 pm.
This is our effort in association with the Blacks Star Project out of Chicago and across the country, to get fathers involved with their children's education and show up on the first day of school with their children.
