Apparently angry about his wife losing her job, a Florida man confronted school board members before turning his gun on himself. With so many angry people out there, perhaps it's time to consider installing metal detectors at school board meetings.
Fla. school board shooting captured on video
A school board chairman calmly told a gunman he was probably responsible for firing the man's wife and another board member tried to disarm him with her handbag before the man opened fire.
The gunman fired point-blank at school board members but missed. He was wounded by a security guard and then fatally shot himself.
The gunman had for much of the meeting sat with the rest of the audience, listening to routine business.
As the board was in the midst of a discussion Tuesday, Clay A. Duke walked to the front of the room, spray painted a red "V" with a circle around it on the white wall, then turned and waved a handgun.

Wow, that is probably the most disturbing 3 minutes of video I have watched in a very long time...
The woman with the purse is amazing and quite lucky to be alive.
I saw another video that had the actual shoot out footage. The shooter exchanged fire with the school security chief, who injured him, before he killed himself.
In District 150, I feel fairly confident that if a person came in looking to hurt somebody and Officer Collins is in the vicinity, he would be able to handle it.
Bang bang, shoot out in broad daylight in Vinton Highlands. No regard for anyone just shooting. Killed number what? 20?
Yes, and then Luciano reported on random shots fired in a shootout situation in West Peoria. We don't need to worry about international terrorists--we have plenty of own homegrown brand right here in Peoria. I hate it when they go after each other, but hate it even more when innocent people are caught in the crossfire--especially, children.
Isn't it funny how when you post about about a white man going to an all white school board and shooting them up, all people want to do is change the subject and talk about when when black people shoot that had absolutely nothing to do with subject at hand.
I guess it doesn't only happen in the hood but they'll never admit it.
Anonymous--What! I heard the story about the shooting at the school board meeting all day but didn't see the picture until after I had heard the audio several times. I am being quite honest when I say that I never even thought about the race of the shooter--was just appalled by the event. In fact, I don't know the race of the shooters in West Peoria or the ones in north Peoria today. Who changed the subject? All the stories are about people with guns who endanger the lives of random people.
The school board shooting wasn't random. Just because you say this is what the story is about doesn't make it so.
The school board gunman was out specifically for the school board. A shooting in Florida at specific targets is not related to random shootings here in Peoria.
Anonymous, you are trying to make it sound as though some (I guess referring to me) are making excuses or ignoring white shooters. That's an absurd leap, at least, if you are referring to commenters on this blog (society in general--still may be too much of a generalization). Also, none of the shootings (white school board and Peoria shootings)are random--there were "targets" in all the shootings. However, random people could or do get caught in the crossfire--like 3-year-old children.
I don't know the statistics about the difference regarding how the legal system treats shooters of different races--you may or may not have a case based on those numbers.
