Following the 2010 Census, Peoria Public Schools is planning to make some minor boundary changes to the three voting districts for the Board of Education. Below are the apportionment rules used to make the changes, the recommended map and the action item that will be presented and voted on during the September 12, 2011 Board of Education Meeting.
Apportionment Rules
  • Contiguity
  • Court Ordered Provisions: 1-3-3
  • Voting-age Populations (Barnett Case)
  • Equivalent Size (Baker vs. Carr)
  • Balance dilution/packing of minority voters
  • Compact (not-Gerrymandering)
  • No splitting of precincts

I would like to see the City of Peoria and District 150 create districts that are roughly the same (less Dunlap and other school districts). There is interest in the City of Peoria moving to 10 council districts, I would like the school district to move along similar lines. I think there would be value in having your city council person and school board member having similar geographic interests, which is not the case today.

Wow! Good point, Anonymous. In the D150 banner Ad, super Granada is in 2 out of 3 of them. Newsflash to Granada - District 150 isn't about you, girl! It's about children - You know - those short little snot-nosed things running around that are supposed to be our future?
