Today marks the end of week four (4) of the new school year. For the last three (3) weeks, parents, teachers and administrators have been trying to let the community know that schools/students don't have books.
They are not just missing four (4) or five (5) books, all across the District, they are missing tens and hundreds of books. Copying chapters has become common practice and teachers are thankful that Administration has had more copy paper delivered to them (take it easy on those copy machines they need to last all year).
As we know, the main stream media won't cover the story and concerned citizens a/k/a/ inquiring minds want to know ... Got books?
UPDATE: I am hearing from reliable sources that they are still waiting on textbooks.

Unfortunately, I have to verify that books are late coming into classrooms. One classroom had just gotten their (looked like new) social studies or history books.
I was at Trewyn shooting video of the changes with ELITE.
The atmosphere and philosophy of making the school like its own community is so awesome! The principal's office is "City Hall", the hallways have lines like traffic stripes down the middle, and are named Main St., 1st St., so on. And you can't believe how quiet and respectful the students are (I saw 2 age groups) when they walk down the hallway.
Naysayers and critics need to check it out. Trewyn will be transformed into a school full of HOPE and SUCCESS!
What happened to the post on the fights with the video? Why was that taken down?
I found the fight video difficult to look at. You can still find it on YouTube.
Dennis in Peoria, I saw you at Trewyn when I was substitute teaching there yesterday and I agree. It was a joy to teach there. They are very organized and everyone is so happy to be there, including parents and children. When I was growing up we had an Elite Team also; they were called NUNS!!
I have to say every school in the district should have an Elite Team. I think they truly make a difference. Several even stopped by my classroom throughout the day to make sure things were going well and kids were on task. I would sub there again in a heartbeat.
The social studies books are all or part of the $700,000 order from Houghton Mifflen. Those aren't the books that teachers are complaining about. Also, there are evidently some reading books in the warehouse that 150 won't distribute until kids have been tested to see what level they belong in. This is the 4th week of school. Once the tests are given (don't think that has happened yet), how long will it take to analyze the tests, etc. It's an outrage.
Teachers union has had to step in and start trying to get basic supplies (books, etc) to teachers; further, they have had to start trying to help teachers with technology issues (i.e. malfunctioning call buttons teachers need to use in case of emergencies) as well. While Grenade is counting her 10,000 bonus and LaToy is planning her next trip to Thinking Map headquarters in North Carolina, our students go without. Short twenty bus drivers (no one could foresee that shortage before the year began?); textbook shortage (no one could foresee that shortage before the school
year began?) and bonuses are being doled out like gumdrops?
What does LaToy do, anyway? Spend all day looking for the A that fell off the end of her name? No one can email her directly without getting shredded for not following the chain of command. She spends more time in other cities and states than she does in our schools. Has any 150 teacher ever seen her in one of our schools? I bet she doesn't even have a driver's license. Brian Chumbley probably has to drive her around town all day while she claims the gas mileage reimbursement for herself.
Cyberbully told me she got into a screaming match with a hotel employee at an AVID conference. I'm trying to get my hands on the surveillance video so I can post it on Peoriafights.com
I thought Trewyn was already under control under the fearless leadership of Mr. Thomas. No?
Is it true that the security guards are having their handcuffs melted down and sculpted into a bust of Dr Lathan (to be on display at Valeska Hinton) as a peace offering for not clapping during her speech at the colosseum?
I heard that (statistically) in Peoria you have more of a chance of being run over an administrator from North Carolina than you do of being gunned down at a convenience store.
CyberBully told me that the new Trewyn tee shirts portray Carl Cannon holding Trewyn over his head like Atlas held the heavens. On the back they say (in ten font) "OH" and then in 28 font "YEAH!"
CyberBully also tells me that Taujhynah Jenkins won the prestigious Mohandas Ghandi Peace in Leadership award. Apparently the award is generally given out by the North Carolina state legislature but this year one of our very own will be traveling to NC to receive the award.
CyberBully really needs to start his own blog - instead of calling me all night telling me what to post on everyone else's blog. He's now telling me that we may have been a bit premature re: our assessment that LaToy does nothing. It sounds like she's taking the bus crisis into her own hands. Apparently, a sad and somewhat lonely paper boy spotted her driving the Manual Talent Development Academy early bird bus down Lincoln Avenue at 5:30am this morning. From what I understand, she cut the curb on Griseold but otherwise did a very, very nice job.
Rough week huh, Anonymous?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Not really. :). I'm good. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Poor teacher must of run out of booze and weed. Security is so deligent, teach can't score from the students anymore.
Cyberbully told me he saw LaToy at the Manual / Central football game. Apparently, she was under the impression she was there to throw out the first pitch. Three different people tried to explain to her that there's no first pitch in football before the savvy athletic director offered to let her be in charge of the coin toss. Rumor has it that after the toss she pocketed the coin.
IGTBAR
How did Bixby get into this dialogue? :)
Was it LaToy who set up the barricades and port-a-potties at the Manual-Central game?
Did a little research. Turns out the barricades were initially purchased to create a perimeter around the Rickets Book Storage Center. Apparently, administrators were concerned that all of the district's 1,200 teachers (and some teachers from surrounding districts) would be rushing the building as soon as word got out that the $150.00 three ring thinking map binders had arrived.
Gosh Anonymous, I'm thinking about making a "double-bubble" thinking map to organize all your posts....what ya think? hehe
Largest order of Thinking Map books to Peoria High. These aren't books for students--only teachers get copies. Peoria High received 84 binders for $10,500.00 and shipping costs of $630.00.
anonymous, I think a good 50% of 'gossip' you are getting from whomever, is so false, it's not funny.
I've seen the ELITE T-shirts that volunteers & staff wear; there is a small "ELITE" logo on them, with "Game Changer" on back...and no picture of Carl Cannon! The shirts that students wear have no wording on them. There are different colors, depending on the grade level. I've got plenty of video clips to prove it. I realize your posts may be sarcasm, but good grief!
P.S., I assume there is more than 1 Anonymous posting on here. Kudos to the Anonymous that saw me at Trewyn, and is experiencing 1st hand the positive changes going on there!
Dennis in Peoria, I don't think the writer expected you to take it seriously. It's all a spoof--making a bit of fun of the reality--and the person definitely knows the reality. All of us who enjoyed it recognize it as spoof. However, the textbook fiasco with Thinking Maps is real. The barricades at the game were real. The story about Kennedy at the AVID conference is true.
Also, there is a difference between scarcasm and satire--these posts were satire.
and there is a difference between being an advocate for students and a shill for apathetic unprofessional teachers. Sharon does a commendable job of only serving the later. Satire schmatire. Bitching is bitching.
Sharon does advocate for students....do you!(insert sarcasm/bitching)
This is the REAL anonymous speaking. Not one of the many anony wonnie bees. Some of you probably think Jonathan Swift actually wanted the Irish to eat their own children. Get a grip. And a grammar lesson. Then go advocate for your mama.
Maybe the Trewyn shirts I saw were bootlegs.
What's a SHILL? Hope I don't catch that...
I don't know about a shill but I just showed Anonymous' sister what a shuttlecock is.
I know that no home should EVER be without a sillcock.
(shÄl) Slang.
n.
One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.
That definition sound more like the crowd running Trewyn than anyone I know.
On a serious note--with regard to Trewyn, I will be very happy if Trewyn can be turned around--no discipline problems, strong academic success, etc. However, many of us grow tired of and have become very cynical about success declared too soon and exaggerated. The fourth week of school is not the time to declare success.
Let the words about success seep out gradually as there is enough real evidence of solid success.
Problems at Trewyn reported on scanners have already been reported on one or two days. Those bits of news don't mean all-out failure any more than the good reports mean all-out success.
I hate it when people like Carl Cannon and Sharon Kherat are set up for failure. I am not discounting their own roles in these exaggerations--but they are almost forced to go along with the exaggerated promises when the board, administration shout from the roof tops that change has taken place and then when we finally learn that much was just hype, then it's hard for those in charge to save face.
Every year at many 150 schools, things start out very well--until kids find out that those who have misbehaved do not suffer any consequences, then everything starts a rapid slide downhill.
Trewyn can be successful if talk of consequences is reality--if only scare tactics are at play, there will be no lasting success.
And if some seek a break from the never-ending disasters in District 150 by using humor, then sobeit. They will all still be on the job Monday morning teaching without textbooks and support from the administration.
Just found out about the port a potties. Good news. No added cost to the district except for fuel and labor to and from the stadium. Apparently, LaToy(a) had the potties purchased one month after her arrival in Peoria. In her mind, males dropping growlers in the administrative bathrooms is unprofessional - and anyway, she finds it disgusting and won't tolerate it. And who can blame her? The potties are generally parked out behind the admin building so employees can go number two outside. It's also rumored that Mr. Simmons has been kind enough to offer up the facilities at Von Steuben any time the temperature drops below forty.
Latoya had PSD 150 get her get Illinois platesnwhen she got a ticket in Peoria. No lie. She doesn't think rules that apply to everyone else do to her. Didn't the facilities director get fired for abusing district services? Don't hold your breath.....
Thanks for the laugh Anonomi. Pretty funny stuff. Although it's sad that it's so funny, cause we know most of it is true.
