This is the start of the fifth week of the 2011-2012 school year and from what I am hearing, today is another day filled with copying chapters from the few text books the schools do have on hand, because the District still has not delivered text books to all the classrooms. Although my reports are from south of Forrest Hill, I wouldn't be surprised to find that they are also still without text books north of Forrest Hill.
When I asked what are they being told and/or what is the estimated time of arrival; I was informed that Administration is no longer responding to such questions. WHAT!!
Come on main stream media, do your job, investigate, find out what is the hold up with the textbooks. I am sending this post to several members of the media, hopefully they will pick up the charge and investigate.

Good job, Emerge. It's time to goad the mainstream media. I do bet that all teachers do have a copy of the $125 Thinking Map books. Of course, there are no student copies of that book.
Sharon, I know of at least one school where even the Thinking Maps, which are in the building, have not been distributed.
Emerge, it is sad that the mainstream media has to be pushed to report this story. It is absolutely ridiculous. I agree with the poster who earlier stated she should get a refund for book rental fees. Thank you for being diligent.
I'm hearing rumors that 150's central administrators have been reading this blog, so maybe they can provide some answers.
Sorry, but I do use blogs to gather information. Through my FOIA I received bills for Thinking Maps for all primary schools and PHS, but none for middle schools, MHS, or RHS.
I know that, at least, one middle school has the binders. I'm just curious as to whether or not I was given all the bills--bills for middle schools and 2 high schools could take the cost even higher.
Frankly, I would be surprised if they picked it up, considering they haven't yet.
Anyway, I sent it to 1470wmbd, pjstar, The Community Word, Times Observer, WCBU, WEEK TV News 25, WMBD/WYZZ TV and WMBD 31, among a few others.
Thank you, Emerge, for doing D150 staff and parents this service. Our children are being slighted because they have teachers who are frustrated at not having all of the tools necessary to get a good start to the school year.
Please shout it from the rooftops!
Keep up the good reporting!
Mrs,Emerge
I would like to take this moment to "Thank You" for being a caring parent and citizen.
You always seem to keep us bloggers fresh and up to date on all things Peoria and give focus to how we as citizens of this city can make start to make a difference when we join together as one. I have never been one to base my views on no one form of news, blog, or opinion.
Thanks to followers like Sharon, Dennis In Peoria, Mahkno, Walk of Shame, Peoria AntiPundit 3.1, Emtronics, the poor teachers who have to be Anonymous and of course Anonymous, Anonymous, Anonymous, Anonymous, Anonymous, and Anonymous. Kudos to you all and all the other blogs out there who has taken the time to care enough to voice your opinion and allowing others to share your platform to voice our beliefs and concerns (though we do not always agree) we always stand for and want only the best for our families and the community in which we live.
I am currently recovering from my 4th back operation so my words and emotions have been somewhat clouded by the 4 pain meds and intense pain I am in, so I have stepped back for a moment from this situation that is currently going on in the schools and see that with you and the rest of the crew going strong that It's All Good.
As you were.
Thanks for your kind words, Plain4kps, and I am sure that all our thoughts and prayers go to you, praying for a speedy recovery.

I appreciate the accolades, but not sure I deserve them. Thanks...
4 back surgeries Plain4kps?! Ouch... get better soon.
My dad had 2 back surgeries in
the 70's when I was growing up, that was enough for him.
Let's hope that further information on this book issue
comes out soon, preferably from Dist. 150 itself.
What is the administration DOING?
They are supposed to be running schools. Books are basic in schools. Children cannot read books if there are no books. This is insane. As bad as our schools have been in the past, they always had books.
Schools are JUST now adding classes, too. Kids will be moved after 5 weeks...thought they did that after the first week or two in the past. Why the wait??
I just heard that Lathan's strategic plans calls for more software updates and more professional development (translation: more favors to friends from North Carolina). Software and PD will not make up for fewer teachers and larger class sizes--and no textbooks.
The bus situation is even worse than no books. Kids arrived two hours late for classes today, Others don't get picked up at all! It is unbelievable!
The new strategic plan is being perceived as smoke and mirrors...trying to get the public to ignore the bus problems, the no-book problems, and the over-sized classrooms. Seriously?
How does a student on a bus arrive TWO hours late? Where the heck were they? This is OUT OF CONTROL. I am shocked at the lack of information regarding buses, books, and fights in the media. How come no one seems to care except us in cyberland?
Class sizes continue to be huge and new classes are not being opened up. Does anyone higher than the teachers on the chain of command care about these kids??!!?!
