This IS a message to all teachers from Bobby Darling

We have been informed by many teachers that the start of this school year has probably been the most challenging of their careers. We want everyone to know that we will be holding 3 meetings the week of Oct 24th. The purpose of these meetings will be to listen and try to address your concerns about grade level issues, curriculum, lack of materials, discipline, walk through's, testing, new initiatives and any other issues teachers would like to discuss.
Tuesday, Oct. 25th, Middle School teachers at Peoria High School 3:15 PM
Wednesday, Oct. 26th, Primary teachers at Peoria High School 4:15 PM
Thursday, Oct. 27th, High School teachers at Peoria High School 3:15 PM

Confusion and chaos...is that coincidental?

We teachers are expected to educate children who come to school late, or not at all, without the tools they need to be successful, yet, if we, as teachers do not "educate" these students, while preparing them for the next grade, it is our fault? Teachers and Principals alike are struggling to figure out what Lathan and her "team" expect since things change on a daily basis. Students are assaulting (physically and verbally) the very adults charged with educating them, yet, receive NO consequence whatsoever. Please explain to me how a child can assault the principal, assistant principal and then strike 3 adults in a building, yet not get ONE day of in school suspension or out of school suspension. The student was right back in class the next day. All that happened was, is that now, all the students are aware that there are ZERO consequences for bad behavior in this district. NO WONDER EVERYONE THAT CAN, IS LEAVING PEORIA for the collar communities.

Makes the school board Schock was on look mighty smart...they had the good sense to realize they made a mistake in their choice for superintendent and ended that fiasco.

D150 school board...right this wrong!

Maybe the teachers union should take the lead in advocating for lawmakers to cut aid to parents who don't assume the proper role in raising their children. It could start at the new "parent academy". Most complain about "lack of parental involvement". Hold them accountable through reduced(eliminated) entitlements if they don't do what they're supposed to do....well?

Explain again why the teachers' union should take on this role? District 150's administration doesn't (and hasn't for a long time) held parents accountable for lost and destroyed books. At the high school level, the lost books charges are just added to students' records, but no effort is made to collect the money. Supposedly, students are expected to pay the bills (sometimes very high bills in the hundreds) before students graduate. Some pay, but many do not. Besides many of those who have such high bills drop out before graduation.
In other words, the District doesn't even hold parents accountable. This is another reason why there is a shortage of textbooks.

Classrooms still lacking textbooks at end of first quarter

Heard whs is a MESS!

Lathan's incompetent goons running around district worrying about who wears blue jeans and who doesn't

Students have ZERO,NADA consequences for any and every profanity you can imagine

Reverend Butler or Reverend Lathan have any inspiring words to share with teachers and staff to get them through this difficult year? Or maybe Reverend Lathan can find some stimulus money to hire a spiritual advisor from NC to help us all through this

Thanks to Anonymous and Emerge for the birthday wishes. I so appreciate Emerge's willingness to let us vent on her blog and am so happy that her blog has allowed me to get to know her.

And all the rest of you and to all of the Anonymouses!

It's good to see that meetings have been set up. A little slow coming, but better now than not at all, right?

By now, teachers should have some good feedback for Administration on what they need to make things work.

Let's make the talks productive, be prepared to get results.

Horrlble time for meetings. Coaches can't come, middle school sports, and normal after school activities. Union meetings waste of time, these will probably be the same.

Has anyone heard how these meetings are going?

Sharon Crews said...

Darling's letter didn't reveal who the guest of honor would be. Now that teachers know that Lathan will be at the meetings, I would imagine those in attendance will be Bobby and Grenita. Unbelievable--not. :)

Sharon Crews said...

I posted this earlier--not sure what happened, but Dr. Lathan attended the meeting. Teachers were not told in the above e-mail that this would be a meeting with the superintendent--extraordinary!

Sharon, this rumor is not true.

Was Dr. Lathan there or not? I sure hope she wasn't. The teachers have a hard enough time trusting Bobby. The union seems to be as screwed up as the district at this point. I'm not sure what is going to happen with Bobby in charge. Teachers need to feel secure enough in their president to be able to speak to him about problems they are experiencing. And, from what I hear, there are plenty of problems this year.

I am still wondering if anyone has heard how the meetings went?
