I'm so glad to read this! This sends a very strong message. I hope the board wakes up!

A contact who left at 7:55 said public comment had not begun yet.

Latest - 10 or 12 speakers spoke in support of annette standing ovation for all..no word of vote yet @ 8:40

News provided mics BOE had no microphones for speakers

Thank you for doing this, Emerge.

A little honesty would be nice. 1 person spoke on a different issue; 1 teacher spoke in her favor; 1 parent spoke in her favor; 1 ex-parent spoke in favor of the Superintendent. Public comment started around 8 and was over by 8:20 or so.

Thank you to those who went to the Committee of the Whole meeting.

Was there a vote regarding Coleman or Curtain? Yes, thank you Emerge, for publishing this information.

Anonymous said...

Apparently no vote at committee of the whole meeting

This isn't the first time a principal has been sent back or released. It usually is not done publicly, but in private.

Yes one teacher spoke. Not due to lack of support but out of fear of being targeted by this administration did people stay quiet. It is a shame that the careers of the two principals are being ruined without a venue for them to validate their contributions.

I want to clarify - as the parent that spoke at tonights meeting I was speaking on behalf of all the Glen Oak parents that were there tonight not just myself. In addition Mrs. Applegate was speaking on behalf of several members of the Glen Oak staff. I will say she did a much better job getting her point across than I did. The fact that we got standing ovations shows just how much support our principals have.

Anonymous said...

Every Glen Oak teacher or staff member who attended was there in support of Annette and Paul. We chose to have one speaker because we knew it was going to be a long meeting. Also, we knew the board would tune us out probably as soon as the first speaker started. Finally, one poster is absolutely correct. This superintendent is leading the district by using fear. Many were fearful to put their face and name before the board. Lathan has proven with her actions against Annette, Kevin, and Paul that she is vindictive and will go after your job if you dare to cross her.

Anonymous said...

Can we not get rid of Lathan ourselves without the board's approval? They have torn the district apart and don't know anything that goes on in the schools. Is the board waiting until there is nothing left of the school district before doing anything.

I like how Dr. Lathan is shacking up #150 it is long over due this buddy system has gone on for too long!!

Anonymous said...

Thank you to all who attended the meeting, and for those who were the crowd's spokespersons. Kevin and Annette are supported, and hopefully the cowardly board (without microphones, really?)steps up and understands the games Lathan is playing.

Anonymous said...

This board won't do anything. They let Lathan buy hundreds of thousands of dollars of materials without a bid. They let her fire and destroy people on whims. They let her hire unqualified friends.

The mess will be staggering. Its time for the mayor to step in.

Buddy system? Really? How about all of Lathan's unqualified buddies from NC? And why is the Lincoln prinicipal not up for demotion-Lathan's buddy? Her scores are in the tank!

I won't comment on the content of the BOE meeting, but if they could have a PA system at other Dist 150 sites for these meetings, why not Hines?

Otherwise, I am perplexed that people have been complaining for months about problems at Dist. 150, yet I don't see any 'anonymous' or other usual poster names on the ballot for the upcoming election. There was adequate notice of when the petitions were available, when they had to be filed...yet 2 seats are up for election, but the incumbents are unopposed. If some of you negative Nancys and Neds think you could have done better, why didn't you run? (If you are not a current District employee)

Don't be a part of the problem if you are not willing to be part of the solution.

Just my 2 cents there. Thank you.

The only buddy system is the bad principals that she has kept and the NC people. That is why she is getting rid of the good principals because they aren't part of the good old "girls" system. And the principal at Trewyn is only a puppet, Elite really runs that school. They bully the kids just like Lathan bullies her employees. The board is Lathan's boss why won't they do anything. As far as Ardis running the schools, he tanked the city and needs to go so why would we want him to ruin schools and city.

The Board of Education won't do a damn thing. No one runs for the open positions because of the stigma. If you're a board member in District 150, you're automatically a jackass. Who wants that?

Anonymous said...

No microphones? Ferguson still the A-V guy? Enough said.

I hear LuhToy wanted to offer to let everyone use the Hello Kitty mic she had in her purse; however, one of the board members spoke up and said, "Thanks, but we have no mics here for a REASON.". In a rare show of restraint, LuhToy put her purse on her lap and finished the meeting in silent kitty mode.

that is the problem in peoria now as it has been for the longest time. People always speak and base there opinion on what they hear while not knowing the facts. think for a min out of all the schools in 150 why would they just pic or target these principals at random. There has to be some reason these people have come under scrutiny

Fact: Lathan selected Annette after booting Valda mid year
Fact: Lathan has all of the community use plans prior to her arrival and did not allow Annette or anyone in central office to pursue those plans
Fact: Lathan moved Annette's vp to lead another school
Fact: Central office provided no support during Annette's time leading the school.
Fact: Lathan moved Kevin knowing that the school is set to close. Why would she remove the existing principal when he over and over and over asked to stay with his kids until the school closed unless she wanted both principals to fail?

The board needs to admit that Lathan's only technique for improvement is removal of employees and not the PLACEMENT of employees. There is a reason this "skill" isn't in any educational journal supported by research as effective.

The system is in chaos b/c of its leader. Time to remove her.

"Critical Thinker", the reason these principals have come under scrutiny is they won't bow down to Lathan and they want whats best for the students. The board and Lathan don't.You might not believe this but many of us do know who is a good principal and who isn't in 150 as we are involved with our schools. It is the idiots like the board that have no idea what really goes on.

We definitely need more outspoken but also well spoken educators and parents like those that stood up at the board meeting to bring awareness to this situation. The negative digs actually take away credibilty. The two principals have a resume of contributions to the schools and staff they represent. It's more than test scores. Positive relationships and environments are impacting the lives of these students and have been molded by the leadership of these schools. There are many obstacles in education that are out of the educators' control. Both of these leaders have committed to district 150 and have a good track record in their years of service. Work ethic does not change overnight and it should be questioned why their leadership skills are now under scrutiny.

Speaking of candidates (shameless plug, Emerge)

The latest CAPtions edition features the NAACP Candidates Forum that included the US House 17th District, IL State Senate 46h District, Peoria County Board Dist. 6, and the 10th Judicial Circuit Court Judge. This CAPtions can be viewed online before it is broadcast. Here are the links to the 1st hour of this forum:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TAN7VNe-KY

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChyFgThk-lY

It will also be broadcast this coming Sunday at 5 pm on Comcast Cable 22.

The 2nd hour of the Forum will be available next week.

Candidates Forums are a good way to actually see and hear straight from them their views on issues, and how they responded to questions from the audience. The Primary is March 20, but Early Voting is underway now.

Peoria has an inmature insecure leader who because she is black has been told b/c she can string a couple of sentences together that she is bright. The community settled by finding a minority that Linda Butler has compared to Moses leading the flock to the promise land (publicy) when it should have hired skill regardless of race. This person needs a mentor, she needs the board to hold her responsible for the enormously damaging way in which she treats her employees who are supposed to do the bulk of work. Amazing.

I would love to see Lathan walk into Glen Oak as a sub. Let's not introduce her as who she is. She can just be Mrs. L for the day. I want to see her work her magic. If she can recognize excellency, then surely she can perform it.

Those students had better be in their seats all day, working, reading, writing, cooperating, and I had better see a straight, quiet line down the hall to lunch.

If this were to happen, I would certainly gain a much higher level of respect for her. I mean, I would begin to have a drop of respect for her since I have none right now.

Oh yeah, and every new intiative she has implemented this year must be used and/or performed during her stay there.

I am sure she will appear on Monday.....NOT!

Congratulations to Gruhnituh for denying Magic Johnson the opportunity to open up a charter alternative school here in Peoria, Illinois. (Yeah, look into it.) Gee, the last thing we need is an alternative school -- what with Woodruff working its magic. Baaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Gruhnituh -- NO meows.

Oh no. She's got ta got ta go. Gruh Gruh Gruhnituh.

I hear LuhToy might be leaving the district. She has the opportunity to be the voice of Bullwinkle in an upcoming after school special about bullying.

I know, bring Hinton back! He'll save the district. Oops, they tried that. He ruined the district!
