Have you noticed that you no longer read about shootings in the local news paper or on the blogs?
If the PPD has done something as miraculous as stopped all the gun crime we had been experiencing, one would think they would have a press conference. Now that I think about it, the reports coming across the scanner seem to have thinned out ever since the Mayor's State of City Address, wherein he stated that the Feds were coming to town to help with the gun problems.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing if shots are no longer being fired in Peoria and gun crimes are down, but come on - do we really believe that with all of the shooting that had been going on around here that it has stopped - just like that?
At first I was thinking maybe the shootings were happening during the times that I was not listening to the scanner. However, today I am listening and this story below about a burglary that JUST occurred, is an indicator to me that the people at WEEK are making their reports based off the scanner and they don't show any reports about shots being fired here in Peoria recently. Therefore, I am lead to believe that reports of shots being fired must now be coming over a secured channel and that we are not getting the full crime story. Kudos though to WEEK, they have some reports that I have not seen any place else...
Updated Feb 7, 2012 at 1:20 PM CSTPEORIA, Ill. -- A woman was robbed at gunpoint today around 1 p.m. in the 600 block of W. Main. Street. According to the police dispatch, a male suspect pistol-whipped the victim and took a large amount of money. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

If shots are fired in the hood and you don't hear about it on the scanner, do they make a sound?
I firmly believe that the council and the media are working together to supress the crime reports. There are still gunshots, we hear them.

Armed robbery at the Dollar General on Prospect.
600 W Main block includes Gas station at Sheridan and Main, the liquor/convenience store next door to Mr. G's, and Cook tax services a bus stop, and an urban wear/us cellular store. That church thrift shop is out of business. Not usually where you'd see someone flashing money around at that time of day. Rapid refunds are probably in the form of checks. Running Central shoe store's decision to leave that corner looks pragmatic. Maybe Mr G's remodeling and reopening can help anchor that block's retail resurgence.
The PJS story states the woman was robbed on North Street (I think) while in her vehicle and drove to Main Street to report the theft.

A neighbor told me that knuckleheads between one and two blocks from Glen oak learning center were shooting off a couple 22 caliber guns in high 1000 block even side Nebraska around four pm today. While I was not in the glen oak shool impact zone at that time, I can certainly say that those fellas got quite excited and 'festive' at the moment the new year arrived, shooting off more ammunition than Annie Oakley in a wild west show!
Well, I garbled that story--thief got in the woman's car at the gas station on Main.
I guess the new concerns are armed robberies and residential burglaries. They have to be at an all time high.
Word on the street is Pawn King was robbed yesterday and they took all the guns and bullets.
shooting around McClure and Sheridan last night. With no leaves on the trees that police camera on that corner should have caught the action, yet the cops have no clue. Are we using the resources we have dumped $1000's into, or are we so focused on wasting money downtown that no one notices?
Armed robbery at residence 191x odd block . 3 black males took everybody's wallets and herded them into basement . No hoodies involved.
Also six shots fired into vehicle car and hood at red roof inn so different kind of hood involved 99 mercury marquis.
