It was just last May that a letter was sent to the owners and operators of the Lexington Hills Apartments, notifying them that the complex was in danger of becoming a "chronic nuisance property" because of criminal incidences occurring in the common areas and parking lots.
For the most part, it appears that reports of shootings in the area, have slowed down. However, lately I am hearing that there is another killer in the area - the HIV virus.
I don't have proof of the previous statement, but I have decided to go ahead and post this warning, in the hopes that it if is true, word will spread instead of the virus and people will behave more responsibly.

Pretty irresponsible reporting. You have no proof, only heresay, but would stigmatize a large block of private citizens by spreading rumors about AIDs transmission? Can't that happen on ANY property? Is this the 1970's? You should know better ms. Emerge.
Have you heard that it is one person or an outbreak?

The people who made the statement about HIV want me to help get the word out. They would know first hand if it's true or not. I believe them and in this situation, I am willing to err on the side of being an alarmist.
Thanks Emerge. What you are doing is a benefit to the public. When I had a family member diagnosed with Hep.C, the health department called to verify my address. I was shocked at first, but the fact remains, it is contagious.
Thanks, Emerge. I agree with the above Anon. If this is POSSIBLY true then it is important that people get tested. This is a disease. Would people have said that Emerge was irresponsible if she pointed out heart disease, arthritis or some other disease or just HIV?
Vehicular hijacking just occurred by Bradley University. One of the victims (sex not announced) escaped (I assume probably baled out) by Walmart East Peoria, leaving two white female victims still in vehicle along with the black hijacker armed with a knife. 1999 Toyota red checks to willow knolls road area.
They say they're possibly inside the store on the grocery side.

Found the vehicle by riverwest public library at merriman and mcbean. Someone looked out front door of unit where car is parked in front of. Don't need the air. They're clearing the apartment now. They've got one in custody. Still don't need the air.

They got it, but no mention of the little joyride to East Peoria's Walmart food section via the 1999 red toyota found in front of his house. Also interesting that the "she's" turned into "he's," kind of like the subject in the Ray Davies' Kinks' song "Lola." And nothing is mentioned of the vehicular invasion which was how it originally came across the air. I wonder if it was one of those deals where they commandeer the vehicle of a drug buyer while they're in the crack house partying it up? I was beginning to think the other two white females that were originally reported over the police scanner were accomplices. The Peoria Journal Star gave it a three sentence summary: "A man suspected of armed robbery was arrested about 5:30 a.m. Monday at his residence.... booked on charges of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint after allegedly threatening two men with a knife between 1 and 3:35 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of South Merriman. No injuries were reported."

Along the lines of trying to keep the community safe, watch yourselves in the East Bluff Glen Oak School area this summer. Probably about 100 yards from where the Peoria Police Armadillo Armored Truck Surveillance vehicle was parked last week gathering evidence.
According to PJStar.com, "A 44-year-old man was shot and killed early Thursday on a sidewalk near an East Bluff primary school.
Police were called at 5:51 a.m. to the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Kansas Street - near Glen Oak Primary School - and found a man with a gunshot wound.... He was pronounced dead at 6:26 a.m...."
Rumor is he was a regular Citilink bus passenger at the bus stop waiting for the bus. The bus driver came by a few moments later and saw him lying there and got so shaken up emotionally that he was unable to finish his workshift.
The police crime scene tape was half a block north of the bus stop bench. The tape closed off the street and stretched across from the old Wisconsin Tap to the Mexican grocery store front door. What I'm interpreting from news reports is that his live-in girlfriend dropped him off at Kansas and Wisconsin as she headed to work. I'm thinking that perhaps he was approaching the bus stop to catch the inbound bus which arrives at Nebraska and Wisconsin about ten minutes til the top of the hour when it happened.
If what I'm guessing is true, it's very unsettling. It may be time for me to leave this high risk city. :-(
