Check out some of the latest rumors I am hearing about District 150:
- On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, substitutes came in for reading teachers, because they were scheduled for Professional Development (PD). The teachers were sitting out at board room ready for PD, but no one was there. An email went out at 9:00 a.m. that morning saying that the meeting was cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday. The teachers sat there at the board room for an hour and had no idea what was going on.
- Some teachers are being offered dollars as part of a grievance. The District is saying they would give them money and change their rating if the teachers would agree to resign instead of being fired.
- Principal Noly Branscumb has been moved from Roosevelt to Glen Oak.
- Principal Jamie Brown is moving from Hines to Roosevelt.
- Assistant Principal at Franklin has been resigned (have not heard where to).
- ELITE will be going to Glen Oak.
- Carolyn Nunn (Trewyn) is retiring in June but has already been told she's getting hired back. You may recall, that Nunn is the Assistant Principal who is alleged to have slapped a child.
Don't forget tonight's School Board Meeting, which is being held at the Valeska Hinton Center. I am being told A LOT of teachers and support staff will be showing up to protest against the Lathan Administration.

Carolyn Nunn is not "alleged" to have slap a child, she did hit a teacher. Twice. She owned up to it and took her punishment. She is the assistant principal at Trewyn, responsible for Day Treatment.
Ooops...she did hit a child. Sorry, that should not say "she did hit a teacher."
Lathan giving epic speech about how she is getting district turned around by firing bad teachers. She needs to fire the bad superintendent. Looks like she has started trying to defend her actions. Protesting too much.
Not in the room- how many teachers are there?
Luke Warm Tony Pierce and Mz 401 Joyce Banks sticking up for Lathan.
450-500 protesters. But of course the one Lathan is right.
Amazing. Nothing on PJ Star. Guess some DUI in Pekin is more important than that many teachers trying to be heard about being treated fairly. Pam- be ashamed of yourself and your institution.
If I were a 'fired' teacher I wouldn't take the payout. I would file for unemployment and sub a few days a week. Mostly likely their termination states 'non-renewal of contract'. Good luck trying to find new employment if you resign in this economy.
If these teachers actually have a letter in their possession, offering them $7000 to change their evaluations--they should head for their lawyers.
Sharon, They already have, hehehehe
What are class sizes at trewyn? How many administrators and interventionists are there? How many personnel are employed by elite?
If Elite goes to Glenn Oak does that mean they will not be at Trewyn? That will be interesting.
Re one of the many Anonymous posters:
"Amazing. Nothing on PJ Star."
They did post something around 10:30 pm. You know it does take time to write the story, get it approved before it is published. How long did tonight's meeting take? Did you expect the story to be posted online at 10 pm if, for example, the meeting ended at 9:59 pm? Oh, and why are you blaming Pam Adams? She wasn't assigned to the story, John Sharp was. Get real.
I did decide to show up, record the rally just like other news stations, will get it uploaded to YouTube by Friday. Otherwise, I have no comment on the rally or the remarks by Dr. Lathan.
One big reason that countries have been brought down, marriages ended, feuds started...gossip and rumors. Until some of you all folks come up with CSI-type evidence to some of this, I ain't gonna believe one word of it.
On top of of that, you got proof that Ms. Banks and the good Rev. Pierce was asked to speak for Lathan? Maybe they came on their own God-given free will! There are folks out here that do think some good stuff is happenin' in the District, and that Lathan is doing what she needs to do to fix years of problems. Teachers, principals don't like it, they know where the door is. All I can say now.
I think it will be a new team of Elite folks at Glen Oak so both schools will have them. Dare I ask where the $$ is coming from? Also, Glen Oak is starting a whole lot different next year than it did this year. There will be 3 assistant principals at the beginning of the year along with 2 interventionists. That's a bit different than the ONE assistant principal and ONE interventionist Coleman had to start with. She eventually got another assistant but no other interventionists. Glen Oak is the largest school after the high schools. If you throw in a home school facilitator and some security, you might start having enough adults in the building. Until the faces stop changing in the office and classrooms and parents are held more accountable for the behavior of the students, none of this is going to make much difference.
Anonymous in Ptown needs to spend some time inside some of these schools to see what is actually going on.

Ptown, as a matter of fact, Lathans minister DID ask people from her church to come out last night and support her. Ha, you can see how manyshowed up....2!
Yeah, I'm sure I can just walk into any school, any classroom without lettin' them know upfront, huh? That'd be a quick trip for me out to a cell on Maxwell Road.
If I call up a school, say I want to visit a classroom, as a taxpayer to Dist. 150, you think they goin' to let me choose the room? Hell, probably not.
I'd wonder if Dennis in Peoria if he'd be allowed to video a classroom or two when school gets goin' again later this year. They say a picture's worth 1000 words, so I figure video's to to be worth even more.
Only problem is he'd also be railroaded to a room that's got all good behavin' kids, no kids that mess around, curse teacher, and all that. So all you Anonymous folks that are probably teachers here, how we get around that?
Actually, Anonymous in Ptown, what you say is true. A one time, planned, visit to any District 150 School (charter school included), will weld you a beautiful facility with well mannered children.
However, if you become a regular, once a week, 45 min., volunteer, you get a feel of the culture of the school and you will be able to develop some opinions about who and/or what is running the school.
And until you do that, you are not informed enough to make comments on what teachers deal with day to day from bell to bell.
Dennis--the public meeting didn't last until 9:59--I was home at 8:58 after I went out to eat. There really was no meeting. Young Author winners were introduced. A ten-minute meeting was held. Audience members spoke. Grenita read her statement--dismissed.
Ptown, a video was made of a classroom at Trewyn. It got on youtube. Durflinger found a way to get it removed before too much damage was done. I believe the people who put it up there had parents who said take it down. It was not a good video. It was a middle school classroom. This was 2 years ago. Haven't seen a video since, except on the news clips.
Oh, teacher-hater,
Still resisting therapy, I see. Perhaps an exorcism would be less threatening? "It's so nice to be insane. No one asks you to explain. You're a little bit touched, Angie, baby!"
Sharon, I was just using 9:59 pm as an example. I realize the meeting probably ended long before that.
Thank you.
Glen Oak principal Annette Coleman will now be known as Peoria High assistant principal Coleman.
Congratulations to Annette Coleman. She will be an asset to Central. We will truly miss her kind hearted, caring demeanor. Good Luck!
And the new principal at 7th and 8th Manual Academy is Julie Traekenschu, a dean at Manual Academy in the high school. How sad to remove a perfectly good principal, who did her job and got along with everyone and put a person who doesn't get along and can't do the job she has had now and previously, into a principal's position. Something wrong with this picture.
Maybe Traekenschu can hire Mary Davis to be the girl's basketball coach! Oh, how cozy....
speaking of rumors
heard mckinnon going to hines
I heard she was there with a survey to find out what kind of principal they would like. I am sure this is so they can put the exact opposite in place. Oh, and then Lathan can say she asked for teacher input. Another dog and pony show.....
Those poor people at Hines.
The two teachers in the room where apparently the two teachers who didn't open the e-mail sent in March requesting us to change our substitutes to Thursday of the same week. I hope that they went back to their buildings that day and sent the substitutes home!
