Read em' and weep...

Quotes from an inner city kid caught in the violence:

"I just want to get out of Peoria. I want my life, I want to live my life. I still got life to live and I don't want to get killed I don't want to get stabbed I don't want any of that."

"... kids in my neighborhood are "fighting, shooting, stabbing each other," which makes it hard to stay out of trouble. I mean it's too much violence. In order for me to stay out of trouble I don't have friends." quotes are from a 17 year old, inner city, Peorian

Quit protecting the perps. Call 911 and give up their names.

the prayer vigil on the courthouse steps should have been held down in the hood where the crime is.

Keep voting Democrat, and keep getting more of the same. Government wants to keep you down and make you feel helpless, so you'll keep voting for more government. Go out and live your life, but good decisions come from within.

Northland College (NZ) principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth.

“Always we hear the cry from teenagers ‘What can we do, where can we go?’
… My answer is, “Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you’ve finished, read a book.”

“Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again.”

“In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It’s too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you…”“

First: to the person with the democratic remark: Better check your facts. A lot of Republicans own Section 8 housing developments also and those big corporations in the food industry? They love those Link cards also. The rich and especially the Right makes money off the poor being poor so your comment that it is solely a democratic thing is bullshit. Stop watching FOX! In fact, Democrats will do more to help the poor than any Republican would do.

Second: To the poster above, right on! I was driving through various areas of the hood yesterday and saw people sitting out on their porches and in their yards. Nothing wrong with that but the house was filthy, the yard was full of litter, junk everywhere, grass needed cut. You would think that if you wanted to sit out on your lawn, you wouldn't want to sit in filth. What's wrong with getting off your ass and cleaning up a bit? Instead of letting your 3 or 4 babies wander the lawn in just underwear, why not dress them a bit? I'll never understand why 6 to 10 young men have to hang out in the old Walgreen's lot on Western and just stand there. Why, if you are a mother with 4 kids in tow, you can't cross at the traffic light but instead right in the middle of the street (25 ft from the crosswalk) with each kid 5 feet behind the other and if you honk, you get an ear full that would take an interrupter to understand. If it's a culture thing, then maybe you should change the culture. In fact, I'll bet if a hard drive was on by the community to change the culture, maybe a lot of these shootings would drop off.

To the Anon with the Northland College quotes...

Yeah, good ole' tough love - it works.

By the age of 17 you should be of the mind that where you come from is not where you have to end up. It does sound like this 17 year old is waking up to the fact that she will have to take her future into her own hands and get out of Peoria if she is to live or have a future.

... that is what's sad.

As my rapper friend Grade A Plus says,

"A ballcap on sideways,
walkin' with a swag,
hidin' a piece in your sags
you'll end up in a body bag.

Gangbangers beware
the 'hoods are steppin up
tired of hearses & police calls
it's time for you to fall"
