I just happened to see this photo on Facebook. I'm re-posting it here (with the permission of Mr. Porch), because I hope Mr. Porch and company will be able to connect with the right people at District 150 and get the access they seek.
Peoria desperately needs grassroots involvement from the black community (especially men) to make a difference in educating our children. It's good to see more people looking to step up to volunteer.
We hear about how stellar the Elite Program is but unfortunately, there is only one Carl Cannon. If it's working, let's duplicate it and/or tailor something similar for other District 150 schools. Let's give some other programs a chance to make a difference.
Does anybody know who could give them "the access Carl Cannon has" (click on image to enlarge)

I haven't seen Marc Porch in a while--I thought maybe his group gave up trying to help District 150. Marc is a fine young man with a sincere desire to help the young people of District 150. I'm sorry that District 150 leaders don't see that.
I can't imagine access being denied to a group of black men willing to step in and work with our kids. So many of them need positive role models in their lives. I hope these guys get the right contacts.
Sounds like a great movement. See Washington Post article:

Parent group stepped up to make sure their black sons & daughters graduated and went on to college. Good results. Maybe be a good group to contact for info.
mr porch and his group met with dr. durflinger a few years back and had a positive response. not sure what has happened since then
I saw that article Frustrated. It shows what can happen when parents get together and begin to share their information. It would be awesome to see something like that kicked off in schools here in Peoria.
Is he the man who stayed home on a snowy day and was let go, or quit?
Have em give me a call. Jeff Adkins-Dutro (309) 339-9210.
No, Marc is not the man who stayed home... He is one of my former students who has a special interest in Manual. When I spoke with him a couple of years ago, Marc was not happy with the discipline problems, etc., that were destroying what he remembered and the school of his teen-age years.
Sorry, Sharon, I was typing about Mendoza. I hit the wrong comment box. It is now in the proper comment box.
We asked about Mendoza tonight--he is still with District 150. The PJS erred in calling the other guy the director of transportation.
