Decision time.. who will lead the 2012-2013 School Board

Remember last year when the process for choosing who would sit at the head of the School Board was questioned?

Well it's that time of year again and as far as I know, nothing about the process for choosing has changed. 1470 WMBD is reporting that current board vice-president Chris Crawford and board member Martha Ross will likely be nominated for board president. Ross has been on the School Board for nine ten years, longer than any other member. Crawford has been on the School Board since 2010.

Last year it was Ross vs. Linda Butler, with Butler winning the seat. Board member M. Lynne Costic voted with Ross. Voting for Butler, in addition to herself, were Debbie Wolfmeyer, Chris Crawford and new board member Rick Cloyd, who was sworn in that day. Laura Petelle was absent.

Currently, the only qualification to be president is to sit on the board for at least one year. A past policy required a board member to be vice president before becoming president. Source

Dist. 150 school board expected to elect new president
The Peoria District 150 school board apparently will be under new leadership the next fiscal year.

Sources tell 1470 WMBD current board vice-president Chris Crawford and board member Martha Ross will likely be nominated for board president when the panel holds its annual reorganization meeting Monday.

Current board president Linda Butler will not seek another one-year term as president.

Board member Rick Cloyd will likely be the lone nominee to replace Crawford as vice-president.

Board members could make other nominations during the meeting which starts at Noon Monday at the District 150 administration building. Source

I would really like to see Martha Ross as School Board President this coming year. It has nothing to do with what is fair (well yes it does - she has the experience), but she would really bring a real voice to the seat.

Perhaps the board will vote to allocate some money for renovations of some offices on Wisconsin Avenue in order for them to be adorned with posters of Bashar el Assad and fluffy new Justin Bieber throw cushions!

If I could vote, it would be for Martha.

The whole board needs to get a voice. Martha is the only logical choice, because she has been through it all, and is not a "yes ma'am" type of board member. How many meetings did Crawford miss this last year?

Crawford hasn't contibuted a THING to the 150 students. Why should he be board president?

If Martha isn't elected as Board President this time around, I know it is a conspiracy. She deserves the position due to her exzperience and loyalty to this District. She is a Board member who will atleast listen to people.

they all need to be eliminated and thrown out of office.

Of the two Martha is definatly my choice. She seems to at least listen when we need her to.

The best thing is that Butler will not be president. The next step is for voters to vote for whomever is running against her.

AMEN, Anon above, AMEN!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Crawford was the Chamber of Commerce's pick for the school board. You can see what that got them....lol
The logical choice for BOE president is Martha Ross. She is a voice of reason and is NOT a yes (wo)man. She will have NO PROBLEM telling the Lathanator NO. Martha knows that the BOE is the Supt.'s boss....not the other way around. Chris Crawford does not have the experience or intestinal fortitude to step into the ring with Lathan. Electing him BOE president would simply be one more nail in the coffin.

yea - those boys who beat that child @ Sterling grade school to wythin an inch of his life SHOULD NOT have been expelled. Just like Martha voted.

She only votes against expulsions because throwing the baby out with the bath water is not working. If the supt would come up with an alternative Martha may change her stance. Btw, dont you want a BOE president, that will stand her ground and not be a yesman to thesupt like butler(spineless)..

Martha votes against ALL expulsions - isn't that part of the lack of discipline follow-through always complained about? Martha has been the leader of the parent academies everyone criticizes for lack of involvement/participation. So - she should be the leader because she is largely disagreeable? Ok - now I see your logic.

Point taken. So what has Crawford done to make him so tough on discipline? Or what has he done at all?

Well now I am sure. Nothing here does make sense. Ross as President would be a disaster. Now matter how long she has sat on her ass, she isn't qualified to lead a marching band let alone a school board. The only reason she has been there 10 yrs is because absolutely no one will come forward and run against her. Really can't blame people. Board membership is a thankless job with a host of lounge chair quarterbacks criticizing your every move.

And in the end, does it really matter who the president is anyway? They vote on the issues and the president's vote is worth no more than anyone else's so even if Martha is president and fights Lathanator tooth and nail, the great grenita will still get everything she wants.

Does she serve your area Emtronics?
