What's HOT on EmergePeoria right NOW!

One can only hope that Board of Education (BOE) members are doing some research as they prepare to vote on a four-year contract for the Superintendent of Schools. The Super is in the second year of a three-year contract and the Board will be voting on renewal at the Monday, June 18, 2012, BOE meeting.

Some folks are concerned that the BOE is being asked to make the decision on the contract at this juncture. In my opinion, it's only fair that they let the Super know now if they want her to stay in her current position or not, as I am sure that she and her cabinet will need to get to work on their relocation. How nice of the BOE to be so considerate of our company. You cain't say that wee's ain't hospitable.

Considering what the Ungurait transcript alleges that the Super and friends think of PIAiens, I can't imagine they would want to stay around once the gig is up.

If the BOE used the same criterion to review the Superintendent's progress that she used to judge teachers and principals, do you think the contract should be renewed? Take a moment to answer the poll to right of this post.

In case you all ain't been paying attention, the BOE loves Dr. Lathan, of course they will renew her contract and probably throw in some goodies too!

seems that the boe is rushing to renew contract before public views 2012 scores

I'm sure they will renew her contract. They are blind and deaf about everything!!! I think scores should be looked at and also her evals from the teachers too. I think this decision to note is rushed why does it have to be right now??

It was probably Lathan & Butler's idea. Hopefully, the other BOE members see through all of that. Sooner or later she will be found out, and the BOE will be stuck with her contract when they fire her, ala Royster. What a manipulation by Lathan!

I can't believe Petelle, Cloyd & Crawford haven't used their own brains and not be manipulated by Lathan. Martha and Mrs. Costic seem to make up their own minds these days. Let's hope that happens Monday nite.

Normal contract negotiations would take place after the achievement is released. Yet another Lathan bamboozle.

Ungurait tried to warn them and they ignored her.

All I can figure out is that Lathan ie. Butler/Woflmeyer might actually be scared that she will be held accountable for her actions for the first time since coming to Peoria. Why else agree to a contract extension 6 mo earlier than normal? People need to call their board members now...even the paper poll shows no one wants her that long.

It really does make sense for the school board to look at this decision now. IF they decided to not renew Grenita's contract, more than likely they will need to look for replacements for several of the top administrators who came to 150 from North Carolina. Avoiding replacing all of those people, is reason enough to renew her contract.

I show that the Ungurait transcript post had 1129 views (I think it's safe to assume if they looked at the post - they looked at the transcript); if you go to Scribd, it shows 2,134 reads. It was widely viewed. Will this transcript have any impact on the Board's decision? Should it?

I don't know why but I believe the District 150 school board is doing the bidding of the Chamber of Commerce. I don't know why they believe Lathan deserves an extended contract. None of it makes any sense to me. However, we could ask: how many members of the Chamber have any personal stake in District 150? I do not understand why teachers and principals living in fear of losing their jobs and being blamed for all of the ills of the inner city is conducive to providing a good environment for children. Clearly, that seems to be the case.

They did more than ignore Ungurait---they fired her. Then people question why more teachers don't speak up? Lathan fired her number two for telling the truth and pointing out her flaws. What in the world would she do to a lowly little teacher?

Lathan is destroying our children Unless you have a child in the school system or are a teacher, you don't know what is going on at all. People can preach all they want about accountability for the teachers, but at least they want what is best for the students where as the board and Lathan do not.

As far as retirements, I would like to know how people like Perkins, Salzman, Dr. Kinney, and others can draw their large retirements and still be rehired or hired by the school district. Does anyone know exactly how many administrators have been rehired being paid by us taxpayers, while drawing their full pensions? Doesn't seem fair. If Andrews can't handle Trewyn then get rid of her and also let her aunt Ms. Perkins go.

I agree about the doubledipping. Drawing good pensions and getting these second high-paying jobs is a result of early retirements--the cause of many of the pension problems which have created the problem with pensions.

I have an off topic question....what is up over at antipundit? I can't get on because I have not been invited.

i think anti-pundit now has a fee

Peoria Pundit has the fee not Anti-pundit. I can't get on either. Don't know what to do about it. Randy, what's the deal?
