With the temperature predicted to be under 100 degrees, this time I will be there. (Cameras don't do well in higher temps). I'd like to challenge some of the usual negative Nancies and Neds to be there too. The violence is not a 'Black' problem, it's a PEORIA problem. Thank you.
Absolutely Dennnis! Turn it into a media circus so everyone will clammer to be on TV, just like all of the vigils. Nothing will change until the people involved in the violence and hiding the offenders become part of the solution by calling the police and taking back their neighborhood. We have no crime in my neighborhood because the police are called if there is a window screen on the ground. We do not hesitate to throw a criminal under the bus, regardless of how hard his/her life was growing up. Being a criminal is not what God put people on earth to do, they know this because most of them were carted off to Bible School for years. This behavior is a choice and as long as people in the neighborhood condone it, this will continue. Everyone has to be involved. Wonder how many crimes will take place in that neighborhood during the vigil?
Not wanting to sound snarky, but can someone please state a cogent case for how exactly my or anyone elses presence at this event can have a measurable affect on local crime stats.
I think the march is a waste of time and this is why, it doesn't resolve anything anymore than when the police were down at TAFT and the violence errupted after the cops left. If people truly want change then each and every person that goes down there, gives up any and all information on the what he/she knows about the criminals and crimes. I would suggest that it could be done in some anonymous fashion like drop the list into a bucket so no one knows who told. That will have a bigger and more positive effect on crime than walking and chanting. If Dennis wants to call that a Negative or Nancy suggestion then so be it. I am not going to waste my time until people come forward to actually resolve the issues. I have to do in my neighborhood and believe me the backlash comes from the criminals, elected officials, and even the police. They are just as interested as the family members of the problem people to sweep much under the rug with the "I don't know nothing and nothing to see here" prevelent attitude.
I think the vote is in. We are sick of these thugs and are done praying for and coddling them. Lock em up so they can't reproduce and throw away the key.
Yes, I am the Christian that TEACHES people to fish, I do not hand them FREE fish so they can have lots of free time to enhance their criminal skills. Yes, I am the Christian who did not SPARE the rod and my children grew up to be contributing members of the community. Yes, I am the Christian who is tired of turning on the evening news and seeing yet another homicide in Peoria, vigil to be held at a later date. Yes, I am a Christian and yes, it is Groundhog Day all over again.
There is a difference between Christian and dumbass. If a Christian helps you and you don't change your ways they give up on you. The reason a Christian helps you is to make you a Christian. I don't care how Christian a person is they do get fed up. Guess what we are getting fed up. I am a Christian. I also believe Darweyn was right. i was also raised where the weaker animals get culled from the herd. The time has come to do something besides a peace march. I just dont understand how you can have a free apartment with a river view and want to destroy it.
"... and yes, it is Groundhog Day all over again."
As evidenced by you continually speaking with the same level of distaste and negativity every time you comment.
Why would any person think for one minute that the people who are marching against violence in the streets are not speaking out against violence in their home or working with the police to do what they can?
The continued effort to brush all people who live in a certain area with such a broad brush is TIERED. It just really makes you and those who make comments like you come off as being an eternal pessimist.
And we have to be careful that we aren't the type of Christians who fall prey to the judgment of the Bible that states, "Pride comes before a fall." A friend of mine asked me once which I would rather be right or Christian. All to often I prefer to be right. :)
I guess you don't want to look too rich or like you just got paid in the East Bluff on Friday night, especially at Shell Gasoline Station at Knoxville and Nebraska.
Victim was asked for wallet then subsequently shot around ten or eleven pm.
I was just there buying a newspaper around nine thirty.
They were gonna see if perhaps the Shell Station surveillance videos might have picked up a clue or two.
I'll be curious to see if our media picks up this story on the next news cycle

"It takes a village"?
I beg to differ. It takes responsible parents.
Less talk more action. Volunteer.
"This behavior is a choice and as long as people in the neighborhood condone it, this will continue"
It appears that the neighborhood is saying they don't "condone it", hence the march on July 14, 2012.
Who is sponsoring this?
Guess not.
Taft homes with the sun going down NO THANK YOU.

Last time I looked, sundown is not until 8:25 pm, and this March starts at 6:30 pm. Plenty of sunshine, Anonymous-9:13 pm, so come be a part of it!
Wow. Sound like fine Christians on this blog.

Keep throwing money at people who would rather steal than work and what do you have? Lazy, people that know how to do one thing well: breed.
Bulldozer problem solved.
Where is this parable at?

I thought the news said that no one had been shot since the PPD implemented "Don't Shoot". Although someone was shot in Lexington Hills the other day.
