You've seen the billboards, bus ads, and may have heard the theme song ("Don't Shoot!"), but that isn't enough for lawyer Frank Ierulli. A former assistant state's attorney, Ierulli is hoping to get elected as the Peoria County State's Attorney this November.
He says his number one priority is public safety, and this week, Ierulli bashed the city's effort behind the 'Don't Shoot' campaign, which aims to curb gun violence.
It was this comment that caused the Mayor to call out Ierulli for political mud-slinging.
Ierulli criticizes authorities running 'Don't Shoot,' for waiting to roll out the initiative in full force until the politically opportune moment. Current Peoria County State's Attorney Jerry Brady says the pre-arrest phase takes time.
Like Ierulli, Brady denies using the Don't Shoot campaign to fuel his own political one. Brady says arrests are scheduled to be made this year, sending a message to all gun violence offenders not to shoot. Source

Brady..."there will be arrests made."
Ardis. "which is going to save lives."
These election promises mean little to the those already dead, to grieving families, to those traumatized by the gun shots, assualts, robberies, burgularies and so on. For Ardis to resond in such a way as to attck Ierulli for calling their bluff is the disgrace. Don't shoot is the disgrace. The city council and in conjunction with the state's attorney ignorning the number one issue in Peoria is a disgrace. Spending our tax dollars on their pet projects is a disgrace. Settingsgard had alreay announced in previous years that if they concentrated on the worst criminals and got them out of the way, crime would immediately be better. Majority of the council's response, cut the police force. Let them "eat cake" as they dine with important people, making deals with our tax money.
Clearly there are an accpetable number of causalities, and crime doesn't touch the councilmember's lives personally. They are using the death of 8 year old Albert Billups as their political strategy for Don't Shoot. That also is a disgrace.
If you want to even have some hope for changes, set aside any party differences and vote for Ierulli. A straight ticket vote in the Fall is signing more death warrants. Given the level of violence in all it's forms, you just might be signing your own.
The timing of the "roll out" of the Don't Shoot Program does make one wonder.
Unfortunately, it does not appear to be making a positive impact. However, I notice the PPD arrested the three teenagers pretty quick after the most recent shooting.
What was different in this case? Does the speedy arrest have anything to do with Don't Shoot?
Hopefully they arrested the right people and will follow the correct procedures, so that down the line the Illinois Appellate Court won't have to correct and send back; and then be blamed for standing up for criminal rights.
Hey Ardis what came first the chicken or the egg?
Don't Shoot is a political ploy plain and simple. Neat how it came out and then the Mayor announces he is running. It is another horseshit ploy just like the 40 days of prayer were. It made some feel good and looked like our leaders cared.
As for the arrest of those 15 year old boys (and the 18 yr old) I am sure Don't Shoot had nothing to do with it. More was going on in that back yard than reported and the guy who survived knew all about it. Police aren't stupid either. They know by names the trouble makers and you can bet these darling little 15 yr olds have been out roaming the streets before this. It was decent good police work that caught those responsible and if we had more police, more would be caught.
Besides if Don't Shoot had any influence on this crime what so ever, then there wouldn't have been a shooting and a killing.
Another armed robbery today. They didn't shoot.
A good sign
If the politicians weren't talking about it you'd be whining they were ignoring the problem. Can't win with you Emerge. Why not make one blanket post that says that black people are victims and it's the evil white peoples fault. That should cover it and youd save yourself a lot of time.
Yawn.
I'm yawning with you, Emerge.
Next.
