District 150 Board meetings are now on UStream

Good look District 150! Up first, the August 13, Board meeting. This is the link to the corresponding minutes from that meeting. A couple of things in particular that I found interesting:

  • COVERSION OF QUEST ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL FROM A TARGETED ASSISTANCE TITLE I SCHOOL TO A SCHOOL WIDE TITLE I SCHOOL – Moved by Wolfmeyer, seconded by Cloyd that the Board of Education approve the Title I Schoolwide Plans prepared and submitted by Quest Academy Charter School. After a year of being a Targeted Assistance Title I School, Quest Charter School has submitted the following items: a School Wide Title I Plan, Parent Involvement Plan and a Parent Compact which now makes them eligible to implement Title I programming school wide.

  • ADOPTION OF LICENSE AGREEMENT - Moved by Wolfmeyer, seconded by Costic that the Board of Education approve a one-year License Agreement with Carl Cannon for use of ELITE program information at Trewyn School at a cost of $80,000.00.

  • Mr. Cloyd and Mr. Crawford reported on the Washington D.C. Fly In. (Recall the outrage when Wolfmeyer, Butler went on the Fly In).

  • BOARD POLICY 7:70 – STUDENTS ATTENDANCE AND TRUANCY – Moved by Wolfmeyer, seconded by Cloyd that the Board of Education approve the changes/revisions to the following Board Policy as presented by the Policy Committee:  7:70 – Students: Attendance and Truancy. The policy is being revised to reflect the changes made in the Illinois School Code as it refers to truancy. Previously a chronic truant was defined as any student absent from school without valid cause for 10% or more of the previous school year (180 days). That figure has been lowered by 5% by School Code. The Board agreed to waive the first reading.

Is the district streaming the meetings or do we have someone else to thank?

It appears that Peoria Public Schools is the host.

A Title I school is eligible to become a Title I School wide Program when the poverty level, (determined by free and reduced meal counts, Aid for Dependent Children [AFDC], census, or Medicaid) is at or above 40%.

School wide programs do not have to identify particular children as eligible for services or separately track federal dollars. Instead, School wide programs can use all allocated funds to increase the amount and quality of learning time.

School wide programs serve all children in a school. All staff, resources, and classes are part of the overall School wide program.

The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students, especially those students most in need. All staff in a School wide school, including teachers and paraprofessionals, must be highly qualified.

The ELITE License Agreement was renewed without the tax payers knowing what the numbers show about the success or failure of the program.

Illinois School Code was modified on February 20, 2012, regarding the definition of a chronic truant.

The Board made the change to Board Policy 7:70 Students Attendance and Truancy on August 13, 2012.

How did the District handle truants in the interim?

You can thank PFT executive board member Scott Donahue who I heard made that suggestion to the board last board meeting.

Kudos to Scott!!!!

I am not savy on the computer. Can you post where we go to get the board meetings?

By Quest being a full Title one school does that let every student that attends that school get free lunch and breakfast like 99% of the other schools in Peoria?

Hopefully they are broadcast live not posted after the fact. Anyone who was at the meeting and heard Donahue talk, wasn't that what he suggested?

It looks like the video was posted in August. Hopefully more will be on their way.

Did I really just hear on the scanner that a 5 year old is out of control and Irving School and they need the police to come to the office? Wow, must be a bad azz kid.

Yes...

That's exactly what you heard. I heard it to. I guess they need that Principal down there.

30 kids fighting @ Caroline and Glendale.

Those are just regular happenings in urban settings. All schools need an on-site administrator.

Are the public comments on this video? I tried to listen but the audio fades in and out, probably my poor DSL line.
I am still recording the audio of the public comments for my blog, www.peoriastory.com.

I would love to count on something like this, but so far it's not great. The district needs to go back to cable TV, without editing out the public comments.
