Overnight violence tally: 1 dead, 3 more shot, 2 armed robberies
A spasm of violence overnight Wednesday left one man dead and three others with gunshot wounds in a seven-hour span that also included two armed robberies.
Police were called shortly after 8 p.m. to an alley in the 1900 block of West Howett Street on a man shot in the leg. He was transported to Methodist Medical Center.
Half an hour later, someone showed up at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center claiming to have been robbed at gunpoint near the intersection of North California and East Ravine avenues. A suspect description was not immediately available.
An hour after that, at 9:45 p.m., police were dispatched to 2214 W. Starr St. on a call of two men shot in the head behind the home. Michael A. Robinson, 52, was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m., according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. He had a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday. A second victim was transported to a hospital with what police described at the scene as non-life threatening injuries. Police were searching for three suspects.
A little more than two hours later, at 11:54 p.m., the victim of a shooting allegedly stole an SUV that was later located at St. Francis hospital. The man had been shot twice in the chest.
Early Thursday, police were called to another armed robbery. The Circle K gas station at 2312 N. Knoxville Ave. was robbed at 3:18 a.m. by two men, one armed with a shotgun, the other armed with a handgun. Source

I want my city back, I want my grandkids to be able to play outside with out the fear of being hit by a stray bullet. I want to be able to sit with my windows and front door open without the fear of being shot, robbed, or raped. I want to be able to sleep at night without the fear of being attacked in my sleep. Peoria is being held hostage by thugs. The humanity response is to say offer programs to help these poor wayward youth to get on the right track. My gut says lock them al up. I am sick of it.
Show up to the budget meeting at City Hall next Tuesday and demand out tax dollars fund priorities, such as police. The only way it will change is if the council is pressured to make the citizen's a priority not their buddies.
Gala season is quickly approaching.
In the current climate of constant muggings robberies and shootings, the holidays, coupled with the completion of the Museum and the Caterpillar Experience should keep the PPD on their toes.
In an effort to keep Peoria's elite safe, the PPD will need to form a bubble around the areas they frequent. They will more than likely be pulled from the hot spots.
If they don't form the bubble, more than likely somebody is going to have trouble from thugs as they go to and fro while wearing their beautiful clothes and jewelry in Downtown Peoria.
Will the City find a way to hire more police? Will they pull more police from the neighborhoods to work the bubble?
Something is going to have to give
Elections season for the City is underway. Who is going to step up and challenge the district reps?
Anyone from the 3rd district or is Riggenbach going to go unchallenged? Petitions need to be getting signatures NOW.
Emerge, you have pretty much said what I have for years. Until something really bad happens to a councilperson/family, nothing is going to change. However, I doubt much thuggery that you mentioned happens outside of said events as there are too many people/witnesses around.
How is the crime in the 5th district?
How sad to have to remember Dr. Volturno's horrific death in this way as a result of this latest murder. His daughter Faith had been in my class at Manual just before he was killed.
(laughter) Jim Ardis is, just, pandering to HIS conservative base in light of the Healthcare Reform controversy. Regardless, of how one feels about that ' lightning rod ' of an issue, it's another example of WHY Peoria needs a mayor that is less preoccupied with partisan politics than issues that affect our, city's welfare. Incumbent Mayor Ardis realizes that, should first-term (City Councilman) Chuck Weaver run for Mayor, HE would be the most formidable challenger that Ardis has faced since the incumbent won against (former Mayor) Dave Ransburg. Chuck Weaver, like Dave Ransburg, is a prominent and well-respected businessman. WHO, also, just happens to be wealthy. So, Jim Ardis won't be able to coast into office like HE did against the, hapless, ' underdog ' General Parker.
Mayor Ardis needs an ' ace in the hand ' . So, he's attempting to shift the public's focus away from his office's failure to rid OUR city streets of, out-of-control, urban crime and violence. His campaign will deploy ' faith ' and the ' support ' of popular, conservative, (Catholic) Bishop Jenky as diversionary tactics and a ' rallying cry ' to secure the conservative base of Peoria voters to his side and divert the public's focus away from Jim Ardis' blind endorsement of the, flawed, ' Don't Shoot Me ' campaign that's become the fodder of local jokes.
The problem is the City of Peoria's, escalating, crime and violence rate continues to put the focus and ' heat ' on Jim Ardis as our city's, top, elected official to resolve the number one issue that's threatening Peoria's livability and stability. So, while HE awaits the outcome of the anti-violence campaign, ' shoring up ' support from the conservative vote is his campaign's move..... It's ' one of the oldest tricks in the book ' !
