It takes a disturbed individual...

... to burn up the playground at the Boys and Girls Club. There are so few places where inner city children can go and feel safe. Even fewer on the East Bluff, which is where this particular Boys and Girls Club is. Is there any wonder people are pissed off:

Now you understand how the teachers/administrators at Glen Oak School feel. It's like one step forward....two steps back. All the years I had been there, it had only gotten worse. Now, every Monday morning the keypads outside the classroom doors on the outside of the building are broken....I will never forget Ken Hinton's words to us at groundbreaking, These students and families will be so proud to go to school here that they will take good care of the facility.....Time to eat some CROW Mr. Hinton. We need a full time person to just FIX the building and grounds EVERY monday morning. With almost 900 students in a facility built for 600, it has become a school filled with thug wannabe's with drug/alcohol addled "parents" who expect the teachers and schools to RAISE their spawn. Sad to say, the school is simply sliding down an already slippery slope.

Everyday I lose a little more hope for the city...

Maybe it is time to escape out to Morton.

Maybe some things would start changing if the cops on the east bluff go against the "don't shoot" mantra...

Never mentioned the people who saw the arson and refuse to talk? What about those people? If you saw the crime and refuse, then you are part of the same problem.

I am sorry, but Ms. Matuszak would have a little more credibility if she had not downplayed that last shooting near the club and Glen Oak school. So the shooting is not a big deal, but burning your playground equipment is. Stop being a tool of the city council wanting to minimize crime and either stand up to it consistently or condone it, either way, at least it's not wishy washy. I was extremely disappointed to see her on the news talking about that previous shooting. It justified the council's lack of action and failure to fund the police force to the necessary levels.

Leslie has clout. She gives lots of money to politicians.
Just sayin

Not that this excuses irrational behavior. But welcome to reality Leslie and other Peorians that just don't get it. Come spend a couple of days in one of our schools. It should be a requirement if your tax money goes to District 150.

Aren't there security cameras on the outside of the facility? When there were problems at some of the playgrounds in my former hometown, surveillance cameras were installed with signs stating such and the vandalism was essentially eliminated. Cameras aren't cheap, but they are less expensive than building new playgrounds.

well these little Einsteins need some sort of release, especially now that it's more difficult to succeed at the old 'throw the old cinder blocks off the bridge' Peoria pastime.

The Park District deals with so much vandalism like this that it's staggering. So much money spent to replace things that end up trashed and torn up. This isn't an isolated incident.

Multiple robberies at gunpoint, man beaten up for cigarettes in the East Bluff. Mother of autistic son, shot to death and dumped like a bag of garbage in a field.
There absolutely is no substitute for an adequate police force. I hope that people are not just going to grip on blogs, but are going to go to forums and ask really tough questions about the financial priorities of those re running. There is going to be spin after spin on the council's failure. Don't buy, I am not saying grab the tar, feather's and pitchforks, unless you have to have those items handy, but while your voice may be watered down with the significant numbers of people in the national and state elections, a few votes can matter. a dozen people decided the the last third district council race. The second district was won only by a couple of hundred votes and so on.
It is past time to hold people's feet to fire for the continued mismanagement of funds and out of whack priorities putting more and more citizens in danger each day.

Bradley Student robbed at gunpoint doesn't even make the news
