Big Bird and Jim Lehrer, a part of the 47%?

Romney has just become the bain of Sesame Streets existence. Big Bird, Gwen Ifill, Jim Lehrer, and "other things," have been threatened to be sent to the salt mines if/when Romney becomes President.

Romney told moderator Jim Lehrer:

“I’m sorry Jim. I’m gonna stop the subsidy to PBS.
I’m gonna stop other things.
I like PBS, I like Big Bird, I actually like you too.” Source

I like my Big Bird roasted in a Rosemary Ginger sauce and served with a side of whipped sweet potatoes.

Yep. End of the road for ol PBS.

I love PBS!!! With no cable it is the best of television. Just one more reason to hate this guy. If we lose PBS it will be like the end to civilization. Of course Romney would be the return of the middle ages. And we would be left with no brother Cadfael.

And a large bottle of Merlot.

Emerge: you failed to point out WHY Romney said this. The United States should not have to BORROW money from China to pay for PBS. We are into China for BILLIONS of dollars, money we need to be more prudent in SPENDING. Should your children have to pay the loans that OBAMA is taking out? I think NOT.

I think NOT.

Thanks for admitting it.

If Big bird is such a hot public commodity than let it be part of private enterprisee like anything else worthwhile. This isn't communist Russia. Here's a thought - how about cutting out 1/2 hour of the blabbermouth six hour Today Show featuring all the latest on Kim Kardashian and knock-off handbags?

Anonymous said...

Today Show is on from 7 am - 11 am. I am pretty sure that is FOUR hours.

I would rather my children pay for PBS than all these Bush wars that cost us millions per day. It is the wars that raised the debt not big bird. I am and will be a huge supporter of PBS and it pays for itself in spades for all the educational information it gives to everyone even the 47%.
I know my impoverished students can watch PBS even if they can't afford cable. I have had them watch science, arts and history programs on PBS for assignments. The value of PBS is greater than you might think.
Maybe we can't afford public school anymore. I can afford to send my child to private school so maybe she shouldn't have to pay debt for other kid's education. That is how crazy the cutting of PBS is to me.

Another Republican and PROUD OF IT! said...

Oh oops I accidentally combined the Today show with Kathy and Hoda. HaHa! No difference.

Anonymous said...

And if Clinton had been more forceful in dealing with the attacks on USS Cole, we would not have the wars. The recent killings in Libya only highlight on-going problems of our diplomatic efforts. Hey big gov't - WE CAN'T AFFORD YOU!!

Anonymous said...

Big bird is usually a little too greasy for my liking. Tastes more like duck than chicken. If we have to kill it, I suppose I will take mine fried. Just make sure to pluck all the feathers off.

Randall said...

Do we borrow money to pay for defense? No Then take some from defense to pay for PBS. Borrowing money to pay for PBS is the stupidest thing I ever heard. Good Lord, get off Fox.

Anonymous said...

I like PBS to but i don't want my taxes paying for it and really how many kids watch big bird anymore

Anonymous said...

I like filet mignon, but it's not in my budget so I don't buy it. Government could learn from that. I was undecided until Wed night. Hasta la vista Big Bird.

TELEVISION IS THE RUINATION OF MANKIND! . I need to get Jerry Springer and MTV and Jersey Shore and Seinfeld and school board and Emert on city council instead of educational programming and Jim Lehrer. Let us watch YouTube on our Obama phone. Smartphone is a constitutional right! signed by the 48th percentile.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Bush wars. How quickly people forget the 3000 people who were murdered here on 9-11.

Randall said...

First it isn't an Obama phone. Look it up Dubbya started the free cell phone program back in 2007. Google it! So it is a free Bush phone if anything. No body is forgetting the 3000 people murdered on 9/11 but it seems people forget the 11,500 murdered with handguns in this country EVERY year. What about those victims? We have killed the person responsible for 9/11. Time to move on because the Japanese killed way more people in 1941 and we aren't still killing them. Again, you can spot the people who parrot off of Fox. PBS cost this country $130 million a year which is about .00004% of the nation budget. To go after that and say it is costing us is complete ignorance. As for your filet Mignon, if you put back the HoHo's and 3 bags of potato chips, you could have it. You see, it's priorities.

Again Randall, this is WHY you will NEVER see an elected position. You only see your own view...regardless of how skewed it is! And, it wouldn't matter what Obama did or didn't do, you would follow him into the gates of hell....you won't be missed.

Dennis in Peoria said...

I have to agree with Randall on his post. Seems some extreme right want to get rid of budget items that represent less than 10% of total federal budget. But it affects the most vulnerable. The biggest budget items are defense and Social Security. Social Security is needed, I agree, but need to find a way to keep it going without raiding it for other expenses. The Iraqi war cost us a HUGE bundle of money, money that was always approved 'off budget'. And a very large portion of that money ended up profitting KRB/Haliburton. And guess who used to work for, or run KBR? Cheney.

Also, not necessarily in this blog, but other places for comments: I see folks complaining about Obama using Air Force 1 for campaign trips, costing so much $$$ per hour. Guess other presidents like Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II used regular planes, trains, and automobiles when they were running for re-election, didn't they?

I tired of people criticizing Obama for doing normal duties and tasks that past presidents did on as well. Guess their memories of such things ended on January 20, 2009.
Thank you for letting me vent.

Again Dennis, get off the enabling bandwagon.it doesn't suit you. The african american community does not need a skinny white guy from Marquette Heights to defend their actions OR inactions....totally demeaning.

A Anon poster who hides behind a keyboard said: "Again Randall, this is WHY you will NEVER see an elected position. You only see your own view...regardless of how skewed it is! "

I say it isn't my view, it is a fact. Look it up. Takes only 30 seconds to see where the free phone program started. And I will vote Obama because what have the Republicans offered. Mitt? Even most of the Republican party isn't with him.

Randall said...

By the way. Do you think that because some favor Obama we are all on a bandwagon? What a narrow view you must have.

Anonymous said...

I believe you are wholly mistaken Randall. The Republicans of this country support Mitt Romney. He will be the next POTUS. You can count on that as FACT

Dennis in Peoria said...

Funny, I don't see anymore in my last post about defending the African-American Community. But thanks for calling me skinny.

Randall said...

Romney will lose and most likely by a shocking landslide. Yes the GOP has pretty much left Romney as they are pouring money now into Congressional races and even Ryan has stepped up his Congress campaign and he is the VP candidate. Yes the Democrats are mostly lame but today's Republicans are just nuts.

Randal, like Obama, just because you say it, doesn't make it so. You truly make me laugh, but not in a "funny" way...

I like how randell wants his cake and eat it too. He says he is for the black lower class, and next he is all over the blacks when they disrupt his white life. Some examples: when the students leave peoria high and hold up traffic (no understanding for these "thugs"), teachers are also the bane of his existance (isat scores are low due to teachers care more about their union jobs than educating) thus, lets have more charter schools. Funny, he wants to run democrat, but puts down the highest voting groups for democrats. Then wants charter schools which was originally seen as a republican idea and don't forget non union labor. Oh, wait--isn't that another hypocracy of randell. Mr. Post office, mr. Union, mr. Federal controlled everything, and retired on a cadillac pension. Sounds like mr randell just wants to tell everyone how it is to be, don't mind that man behind the curtain, be a good little drone and don't question the federal goverment employee. Because to think for yourself would mean you see the smoke and mirrors and no concrete substance behind his arguments. P.s. dennis, the inner city/urban citizens don't need your non-peorian, suburan, white guilt tirades either. Watch your own community and open more minority opportunities and section 8 housing in marquette heights. Just like obama said, the suburbs don' t need anymore of their taxes-lets put in back into urban areas. Well, i see you both not take any write offs on any of your tax forms (and no cleaver banking tricks--cd, trusts, mutual funds) and give all you extra money to the urban centers maybe your voices will ring true. Randell, does live in peoria, and so do i, but dennis i don't see you leaving your utopia, not a shooting or gun fire everynight existance. Basically, put or money whete you r mouth is and/or put up or shut up.

Anonymous said...

It should read: put up or shut up and put your money where your mouth is. The computer auto correct does what it wants. I know your not going to respond to the substance of the argument--just the computer gaffes of a program.

Randall said...

First it is RANDALL If you are going to slam a person for his beliefs at least get the name right.

My son is a high school teacher so I understand what teachers put up with. I couldn't understand your rant, wasn't sure what your bitch is exactly with teachers. This I will tell you, ISAT scores are not solely because of teachers. You're ignorance is shinning through on that.

I am not retired and this council race is non partisan. That means (if the word is too big for you) you don't run on political party.

I do care about the people, both black and white that live especially in the 1st District. I have lived in the 1st for over 30 years. There are many hard working people here both black and white trying to just live and raise a family. I resent your hidden ignorance telling me I am otherwise. I sent my kids to schools here, Garfield, Trewyn, and Manual. Yes I am very concerned about the black on black crime but also any crime. You take license and read into what ever you want to read into.

Please tell me where my Cadillac retirement is coming from? I mean I put in 35 years so a person should have a retirement right? I won't collect SS ever so as far as that goes, you are talking out your ass...again. What is it you exactly do Anon? Got the balls to say?

Again as for having my cake and eat it too, it sounds like you do too. You easily call me out as a racist but your comments, hiding behind a keyboard, make you as guilty. Your comments don't impress me in any way.

I stand up for teachers and unions. Both built this country and without either we all become surfs to the wealthy. I am not afraid for a moment to say that and I'll say I wish the black community would stand more for what is happening in this city but, I'll also listen because I'll admit I don't know everything so there is room to learn.

Because Romney says it is, doesn't make it so.

Anonymous said...

Romney, being a Christian, would never outright lie, unlike our president....referring to american deaths as "a bump in the road". Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

I want to respond to the statement that republicans support Romney. I have been a republican since 1972 and I would never vote for him. Republicans today make me sad. I also know some (just a few LOL) republicans and they are not for Romney either. So you might be wrong about that.

Anonymous said...

If you believe in the Republican tenents, then you would be voting Republican. You obviously are an independent, so please do not SAY that you are a Republican. It's ideologies are far deeper than the presence of ONE man. Republicans believe that welfare is a "hand up", not a "handout". It is not a lifetime career, but a short term assist. Republicans believe that if you can work, you SHOULD work, not work the system. Republicans believe that everyone should help, but not SUPPORT for LIFE.

2 Anon said...

I want to stand with Randall (although I don't always) as Anonymous rails at him. Your posts lose meaning because it is ranting and raving. Even your excuse about auto-correct is out of whack. Your is never used as a contraction for "you are."

Yes, I can thank a teacher. I learned that concept in 3rd grade.

Randall said...

There are a lot of free thinking decent Republican conservatives out there and many of them are appalled by Mitt Romney.

According to many Christians, Mormons aren't Christians but a cult.

Mormons believe their leader is from some planet and you can baptized the dead. OK Beliefs are just that, so it shouldn't be to hard to believe this when many on the Right think Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya.

No President I can recall has ever had to endure birth certificate issues, religious issues like Obama has. Not even Kennedy and he was Catholic.

Randall said...

I have always wondered which Republican gets to decide when your "hand up" is expired. Damn nice of them.

Anonymous said...

Randall, you are confusing mormons with scientolgists. Get a clue. I believe the "hand up" should expire after one generation, no four generations.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I guess I am an independant. I choose to think for myself and no I do not agree with all the tenents from either party. The party system and lack of co operation on the parts of both parties is what creates all the mess to begin with. Party system is broken in this country and needs to be abolished. And lastly the Republicans of today are not anything I recognize from twenty years ago. They have gone too far to the right and fallen on their heads. Here is praying for a speedy recovery.
