In steps the IHSA

Remember the story below about District 150 making changes to the grading system?

At the time, Lathan didn't appear to be too willing to hear about parents concerns and she kind of poo pooed Mrs. McConnell's notion that the system wasn't working and should be changed.

Well, recently I have been told that the IHSA has informed The District that they are in violation of their rules. They must give semester grades. So, it appears that somehow The District now has to scramble and get grades for these year long classes. It appears Mrs. McConnell was right after all!

I heard the change was effective immediately.

Way to go, Paris! Parents can make a difference.

We were told emphatically by our lead administraor that the reason for the immediate change was not because two people spoke up but it was due to the ihsa. Hmmm . . . .

I was afraid my hmmm might not translate to sarcasm, but I was being sarcastic.

Imagine that, a parent was right after all! More sarcasm! Sometimes you just have to go with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The parent had all of her ducks in a row. Not so much for the current administration.

Parents of students with special needs should also speak up at board meetings to let the board know they are not getting their minutes as dictated in their IEP. An IEP is a legal document, but this district just does whatever it wants to the kids with IEPs.

district 150 screwing up? What's that you say? This surprises you ? This is what they do all of the time. Change the rules because they want to and never ever ever check out the legal responsibilities they have. Now why do you think there are so many personal civil law suites against them. The just do not get it.

The Board should again be asking questions about Dr. Lathan's inclusive (NOT!) decision-making style.

There are many experienced principals and coaches at the District that know and understand the IHSA rules backwards and forwards --

Unfortunately the board is simply a rubber stamp. They need to be replaced, but there aren't any willing candidates to step in. The Peoria community will live with this authoritarian, top down leadership until she decides to leave or makes some sort of "fatal error".

My apologies for the negativity of this post. I really do not like feeling this way, but I don't see many positives, other than my students, that exist in this district.

Paris for school board?

Lathan doesn't want to admit the parents were right--and she doesn't want to admit Terry Knapp was right because he has addressed this issue at several board meetings. I still can't believe that Terry and I forgot all about IHSA--I wonder who finally lowered that boom.
