Any concealed carry proponent care to make a statement about yesterday's shooting?

How ironic is that you can't even read the pjstar article about 20 babies being shot dead in Connecticut, without those damned concealed carry ads constantly popping up...

Really?
Anyhow... One can't help but notice that when a white boy comes out and shoots a whole bunch of people we want to talk about them being mentally ill. Never have I heard it discussed that a black boy who shoots people could be considered mentally ill - suffering from issues of oppression and/or depression.

All day, every day, all across America you hear folk talking about arming themselves because they scared black boys got guns illegally and want to shoot them. These white boys come out and shoot more white people than have been killed on city streets in months, maybe years, in one fell swoop, but still the boogie man is the black guy who is only shooting black people.

The white boy shooter in Connecticut had I believe four guns - his Mother purchased them and they were registered to her. You know, the Mother he shot dead before he went and killed 20 babies in a school?

I wonder why his Mother felt she needed so many guns - who was she trying to protect herself from?

One of the teachers huddled in the bathroom with the doors locked telling the kids to "be quiet". That was her defense. Too bad she couldn't just pull a pistol out of her purse. Wonder how the story would have ended then?

A shoot out, in a kindergarten classroom, between goth boy and kiddie garden teacher? Really?

Anonymous said...

So you think the outcome of yesterday's shooting had preferable results? Really?

Emerge Peoria said...

IMO, the only "preferable result," would be for goth boy to not have had access to his Mother's guns and ammo.

Well then you are living in the wrong country.

Mental illness is real, it knows no color.

This post is to illustrate that using the irrational fear of people who are black to justify the right to conceal carry is wrong.

Cold blooded killers come in all colors and they may, or may not be mentally ill.

Looks like they turned the concealed carry ad off on the Journal Star website.

This is interesting:

" He was an honors student who lived in a prosperous neighborhood with his mother, a grade-school teacher who liked to host dice games and decorate the house for the holidays."

Mommy hosted dice games!!!!!!

His mother bought the guns legally WHY I don't understand. Maybe she bought them for him since it would seem he had some ISSUES. They apparently don't have ARMED guards in their schools like we do here. A fire fight might have saved some of the kids MAYBE. We see what the other option was hide in bathroom and pray you aren't next. Yes the the CRAZY WHITE BOY grabs the headlines.

Now we will have folks going to the other extreme on gun control. It won't change what happened nor will it stop the next crazy just like you can't stop the thugs. If they want to kill they will find a way to do it.
We still have the issue of KIDS running the neighborhoods with guns with no regards for who or what they shoot at.

I had shots fired in my area lasnight saw a group run past and one of them said " I saw him shoot at the building" not sure what building since there are so many empty houses we may never find out. At least some child was not shot while sleeping in bed.

I'm not sure what the answer is BUT I want the right to defend me and my family against ANY and ALL threats.

I heard on the news that the mother loved to shoot nd even took her sons to the shooting range. There is nothing wrong with that.

What is wrong is that, per news reports, the mother was very concerned with her son's mental health and did not take measured to secure those guns.

The best form of gun control is personal gun control, trigger locks or similar, and not the govt.

We also need better access to mental health resources so this "white boy" or people of any race can get help before it comes to this.

Excellent post Walk of Shame. Not sure why this, too, has to come down to a race issue. There are 26 PEOPLE dead.

Emerge This is a bottom feeding blog. Shane on you for using 20 dead children for your political agenda. do you want to do some race baiting, Or be a leader with your blog. Look into the news a little more and blog about what the news FAILED to report yesterday. You could have done better than this Shame on you.

Emerge Peoria said...

"Shane" on you for reading and commenting on a "bottom feeder blog."

Where is your blog? Why don't YOU DO BETTER. If you want something reported you think somebody failed to report, you can report it yourself.

My perspective my blog.

meanjarhead, you just earned your nickname.

Everybody is talking about gun control, and you know Emerge does not shy away from issues, especially if it means discussing ways to prevent this in the future.

Walk of Shame is right, and I am glad that person was able to put his/her opinion on here, with classiness.

You should be ashamed for deciding everybody's first amendment rights should be muted.

You want to stop this in the future Register crazy people lock them up. Look up how many kids got shot in poor neighborhoods yesterday. Where is the 24 hour coverage on them? Why wasn't Nancy Grace crying for them? The news dropped the ball yesterday and missed out on a lot more children that got killed yesterday.

How many children have been killed in Chicago this year, this month. It's crazy right?

Eye in the Sky said...

October 29, 2011 -- Hundreds of Chicago children have been killed in recent years. In fact, religious leaders say more than 260 school children died in the past three school years.

That is part of what i was talking about right there eye in the sky. By the way love the Christmas lights they look awesome.

Eye in the Sky said...

Thanks MJH They would have looked better but I 3 black girls come up and ripped some of my canycane lights. So everything at ground level got removed. FYI I saw them come up on my CCTV couldn't get outside fast enough to catch them. Made police report officer just shaking his head. I have been watching very close to see if someone trys again. This hasn't happened it about 10 years. Last time it was santa on his sleigh they broke the sleigh right from under him. Mind you they had to walk 50 feet up into my yard to even get near them. Try to explain to the 3 and 6 year old WHY people would do this? They even help to put them up so very SAD about less lights.

As far as the shooting yes the massive ones make the news but the one at a time are the ones that are adding up FASTER.

The news is making sure those stories are getting buried so folks don't hear how out of control the streets really are.

Just this morning shooting at village green 10 shots fired truck full of bullet holes and shell casings all over the ground. This WON'T make the news so don't shoot will look like its working.

The criminals and crazies already have guns and most illegally. We do need conceal carry so we can legally carry guns. It won't stop unnecessary shootings, but we can try to protect ourselves if we can carry a gun.

Anonymous said...

Why is it that the U.S. has a significantly higher rate of gun-related deaths (adjusted for population) than Japan, UK, India, Spain, Germany, etc.? How are those countries protecting themselves from the unnecessary shootings, criminals and crazies?

Thank you Emerge! My sons and I were having the EXACT same conversation at our house this morning. Great minds think alike!!!

You can strip all the states of CCW; or you can have the toughest CCW laws in regards to mental health tests; you can have the strictest, baddest gun ban laws ever...if someone wants to kill, they will find a way to get a gun and a way to still kill. Whether it's an individual shooting one person in a dispute over a cell phone or a woman in a neighborhood; or an individual such as Mr. Lanza.

meanjarhead said...

How many massacre's have happened in area's that allow guns?

Anonymous said...

Straw Man aargument. Massacres happen in places with a lot of people and lax security. They don't happen at Airports or Stadiums, which don't allow guns either.

Great post Emerge! I was thinking a great tribute to the folks that lost their lives in this tragedy would be for the community to band together to lobby for greater gun control. It seems Congress only really listens when its too late.

Mentally ill or not, there was just no reason for that mother/son to have 4 guns in the home.

I heard on the news that Nancy Lanza was a survivalist and had the guns for "protection."

Lanza's aunt said that "Nancy had purchased guns because she was living alone in a big house.

Protection from who? Adam?

Yes, I'm a proponent of concealed carry and I'll comment. My question is what does the Connecticut incident have to do with concealed carry? If the shooter was the legal owner of the guns, had a CC permit and committed the crime without the aid of a rifle, I could see the argument and a problem with conceal/carry. But he wasn't and didn't.

Dennis in Peoria said...

But suppose that CCW laws let you carry a simple handgun for protection. Then the bad guys illegally get a weapon more powerful than a handgun. Then CCW allows homeowners to even the odds. Except then criminals would step it up further as far as firepower. Where does it stop? How much firepower does a homeowner need, and how do we keep powerful guns and rifles out of the hands of criminals?

No easy answer, I don't think.

@anonymous 7:27 a.m. There is guns at the airport and the stadium. Just the other day at the Peoria airport i seen a woman with a SAW and a 9mm. @Frustrated how many guns should be allowed in a house? A gun is a tool and it has a use. I am all for proper training and a registry system for Guns. There is a special gun to use for the things that i hunt and it makes it so that i need more than 4 guns. Granted i don't have a full auto .223 i can't think of a sane reason to own one. With proper training and respect to the weapon Which is what should have been done from the start of this countries founding there wouldn't be 300 million registered guns in the U.S own by God knows who.

Vonster said...

I haven't read all the comments but this has nothing to do with gun laws, as usual. Evil or dimented people will get guns and do bad things with them no matter the law. nevertheless, Demos will use this to pass more gun laws that won't do any good except violate the 2nd amendment.

Like it or not, it isn't hard to see racial differences in how murders in our country are viewed and punished. I think I would divide the murders into at least two categories. The mass murders that are often committed by young males (more often affluent and very bright) and the street crimes that are more one on one.
The mass murderers all seem to be mentally deranged (mostly because of the kind of crimes they commit) and often they kill themselves, so we will never know how they would be tried in court. However, we do have one example--the one who went on the ramage in the Colorado theater.
More often than not, but there are enough exceptions to the rule to take notice, the one-on-one murders prove to be committed by someone who somehow perceives himself/herself of being wronged by the victim--the motive seems to be personal revenge. These mass murders seem more likely to be killing based on some psychological perceived wrong done to them.
All in all, however, I would say that the latter type of killings ar4e far more prevalent and, therefore, result in much more loss of life.
I believe both types are different enough to call for different kinds of preventive action.

Sharon Crews said...

I meant (didn't make it clear) that the killings that I think are far more prevalent are the one-on-one murders (the street crimes) based on revenge for some particular act. The mass murderers seem to be getting even for a life time of perceived psychological wrongs done to them--but the victims are strangers who were not personally responsible for the perceived wrongs.

I know that I will feel better when Peoria Public school does away with an armed police force. They have all ready had their names changed to Resource officers. The fact they have been working without a contract probably makes them more enthused to "run towards the gunfire" if and when it happens". Just saying.
