Learn to reduce confilict in your neighborhood

City of Peoria
News Release
June 2, 2009

The Community Development Division is sponsoring training for citizens who want to help reduce conflict in their neighborhoods. The training will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., July 11, 2009, in Room 404, at Peoria City Hall. Participation is limited to members of registered neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch groups in Peoria. The training will be facilitated by Kenneth Mitchell, of Real Skill Builders, an organization which provides corporate training and professional speaking services nationwide.

During the training, participants will learn about types of conflict, causes of conflict, and the stages of conflict. The focus of the training, however, will be to learn conflict mediation skills. The goal of this training is to develop a team of trained citizens who will be available to mediate neighborhood disputes that arise from issues such as loud music, pet complaints, youth behavior, property concerns, and cross-cultural conflicts.

The deadline to apply is July 1, 2009. Applications are available on the City's Web site: www.ci.peoria.il.us/planningforms. Applications are also available at the Planning & Growth Management Department, Twin Towers Building, 456 Fulton Street, Suite 402. For information, call Steve Fairbanks at 494-8603, or at sfairbanks@ci.peoria.il.us.
