Anti-Pundit has the real on yesterday's fights at PHS

Anti-Pundit reports:
"Teachers and a football coach covered in blood. One teacher so blood soaked, he had to go home and change his clothes. ...staff members tried to break up the fights and the young thugs turned on them. Fat lips and black eyes on the staff."
All I can say is Wow. So this is a part of what I have been hearing about on the scanner for the last couple of days?!

This should most defintely be on the news. The parents of these young people need to be put to shame in their communities. This can't be done if The District and the City are covering up what is actually going on.

Sure it looks bad for Peoria. But at this point, how can we look any worse? We already have babies being shot DEAD IN THEIR BEDS!

It's 9:20 a.m. and a huge fight is happening on the third floor of Peoria High School. The Peoria Police had to call for back up two (2) times. At the present time there are five (5) PPD vehicles at the school and they are unable to take another call that just came in. More than six students have been taken into custody.

UPDATED: If this house is worth $262,000...

I don't know who the Realtor is, or who did the appraisal, but I got a house I want them to help me unload. The property includes parking lots and two houses along West Nebraska Avenue and North Ellis Street.

This house and parking lots sold for $262,000 (St. Paul on right side of street)

Why would The District pay that kind of money for the house at 510 W. Nebraska?

From PeoriaStory, public comments from Monday, September 10th  BOE meeting.

The District's 2012-2013 deficit doubles from last year

On November 29, 2011, an audit conducted by Clifton-Gunderson put District 150's Education Fund $2.4 million dollars in the positive. Fast forward nine months to August 2012:

This school year, in spite of receiving millions of dollars in restructuring grants for both Manual (in 2010, $6 million over three years) and Peoria High School (in 2011, $6 million over three years), The District's 2012-13 tentative budget is said to show a $4 million deficit, which is double last year's deficit. The District received $4 million in grants, this year alone for Manual and Peoria High.

2012-13 tentative budget projects $4 million shortfall
As the The District has reduced expenses by closing buildings and shrinking its work force, revenues also have steadily declined, said The District 150 Treasurer, Dave Kinney.

Though a number of programs were spared from cuts in the 2012-13 budget, Kinney could not say what might happen if state aid and property tax revenues continue to slide.

"I don't want to predict what we might look at going forward," he said, "but we have to look at something."

The $174 million spending plan represents an approximate 8 percent, or $3 million, cut to expenditures, excluding the capital projects fund.

Drops in state replacement taxes cost the district $1 million in revenues, and declines in property tax revenues, The District's largest income source, mean another $700,000 loss.

Kinney pointed out equal assessed valuations dropped last year also, which adds up to about $2 million in lost revenues over the past two years. The District expects $66.6 million in revenues from property taxes.

Just keeping it "classy" in the River City

A local classical radio personality was arrested for allegedly battering a 14 year old GIRL at a rehearsal for a school play.

The 14 year old GIRL allegedly "disrespected" his wife.

No one likes to be disrespected, however, if one is, the classy thing to do would be to remove oneself from the situation. One should not become embroiled in an incident that could possibly be misinterpreted as battering a minor - a 14 year old GIRL.

Sidebar: People on classical radio have "personality"? Hmmph - now that's news.

Local Radio Personality Arrested
Classical radio personality, Lee Wenger, was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly battering a minor at Peoria High School.

Peoria Police confirmed that 57 year old Wenger was issued a notice to appear on a battery charge after the incident. Wenger was at the school where his wife, Denise Adams, is the music director.

Apparently Adams was involved in an argument with a student during a play rehearsal. Wenger allegedly shoved the female student into a row of lockers while screaming not to disrespect his wife.

The girl later told police she thought he was going to hit her because he shoved his fist in her face. Source

Help Peoria High School win computers

There's a lot of good information in the District 150 Newsletter "Remarkable Times". Finally, the fully staffed PR Department is being put to work doing the things they should be doing. The visibility of the Superintendent, along with Stacey Shangraw being available to make a statement whenever the District is in the news, goes a long way towards the District looking like they are on top of things.

Peoria High a Finalist in National Competition for New Computers

Peoria High needs your vote! Students and teachers from around the country submitted amazing stories about their schools and how a new computer lab could make a big difference. Now it's time to choose who will win The School Pride Web Competition brought to you by Windows 7. Last week, a panel of judges picked the top five finalists for the competition and Peoria High was announced as one of those finalists. You can go online to vote and support Peoria High, with the submission "Empty Computer Lab." Voting ends on November 29th and you can submit one vote, daily. Source

So much to say...
so little time, it's Inauguration Day!

Citizens/parents/jokers, are once again taking District 150 to task for making some tough decisions. Bloggers are reporting that "its gonna get ugly". Really. Isn't there some place in between that the District 150 peanut gallery could start. Don't they realize that the constant and prolonged fights with the District are costly? Can't they see that forcing District 150 into appeasing the mob (or individual personalities) has proven detrimental to District 150's long range plan?

Will District 150's decision come down to what school has the greatest team spirit (i.e., shouts the loudest), or what group of alumni is the most giving and influential? If you can stomach it (them), tune in to tonight's School Board meeting where every wanna be politician will be vying for their 15 minutes of fame for the sake of "the childrun".

Mama always said "Ugly is as ugly does".
p.s. the Woodruff facility is better than Peoria High School
