Gun related crimes in Peoria on the uptick

Overnight violence tally: 1 dead, 3 more shot, 2 armed robberies
A spasm of violence overnight Wednesday left one man dead and three others with gunshot wounds in a seven-hour span that also included two armed robberies.

Police were called shortly after 8 p.m. to an alley in the 1900 block of West Howett Street on a man shot in the leg. He was transported to Methodist Medical Center.

Half an hour later, someone showed up at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center claiming to have been robbed at gunpoint near the intersection of North California and East Ravine avenues. A suspect description was not immediately available.

An hour after that, at 9:45 p.m., police were dispatched to 2214 W. Starr St. on a call of two men shot in the head behind the home. Michael A. Robinson, 52, was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m., according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. He had a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday. A second victim was transported to a hospital with what police described at the scene as non-life threatening injuries. Police were searching for three suspects.

A little more than two hours later, at 11:54 p.m., the victim of a shooting allegedly stole an SUV that was later located at St. Francis hospital. The man had been shot twice in the chest.

Early Thursday, police were called to another armed robbery. The Circle K gas station at 2312 N. Knoxville Ave. was robbed at 3:18 a.m. by two men, one armed with a shotgun, the other armed with a handgun. Source
