Is the Walmart @ Peoria Stadium deal tainted?

At-large Councilman Gary Sandberg... said the city shouldn't try to facilitate the sale of the site located north of War Memorial Drive: “That process is tainted beyond belief, and there’s no way to repair it. Citizens want a fresh slate.”

2nd District Councilman Chuck Grayeb...
“This shows the folly of discussing things that obviously are bound to fail because the public is not engaged from the beginning.”

E-mail from Walmart attorney to Patrick Ulrich, Peoria City Manager
3rd District Councilman Tim Riggenbach...
“Until we have a focused opportunity for the public to become engaged in this as to how best to utilize this property, I won’t be supporting any change of use. That has been a green space for as long as any of us can remember. Are we going to be the ones who give that up?”

The message needs to be communicated to those who do own the land that we would expect that opportunity for the public to weigh in on two important issues. No. 1, what is the best use of this land, and No. 2, what does this new or improved use look like?”
